Tik and similar drugs are generating reams of crazed criminals in small sleepy towns across Sa. Hermanus is a good example, unprecedented levels of crime there at the moment.

Scary stuff if it is true what my platteland friends tell me about tik and how freely it is available absolutely everywhere to even young kids. It is devastating small communities causing social disease on a terrible scale with seemingly no way to combat it. Schools are overwhelmed and police helpless or involved. Social services are dysfunctional or snowed under. Social grants to the poor fund more tik and hardly helps those in need. Our crime wave has been in the making for at least a decade. The first battle in that war was lost on the Cape Flats. Now it has spread to the rest of our province. If it is not halted, the rest of the country will be next. Imagine the upcountry violent crime getting a tik crazed boost. Truly terrifying!

Hi Gerald, sorry about your loss.

Seeing that you are on Super Sport and I am sure you know a lot of the Carte Blanch crew. Cant you maybe "help" start the process of Derrick and the team investigating the root of the problem / interviewing the Head of the Stellenbosch police so that they can pull their finger out of their ass!

Just a thought. Really hope you find your bike.

Cheers

Edit: not just talking about house burglaries but specifically bike related attacks around Stellenbosch.

Ok so this is weird. .

Saw an xt Groupset for sale earlier.

Then I I saw the bike. Groupset was 2x10 cranks 8t brakes derailluers. Same front derailluer as on this bike same shimano pedals on the crank. ( all can be a coincidence. Went looking for the post and it is deleted. .

Fishy?

I apologise if I am insulting someone

Matchstix - I think you are on to something...

The forum member "mtbking99" has since deleted the classifieds post and his user account, but Google Cache to the rescue:

Geraldek - Any markings on the above advertised XT groupset that you can identify as being your groupset?

If so, can the mods please investigate and maybe provide the police with the members IP address from where the post was made.

I just tried to extract EXIF data from the images to get the location they were taken but unfortunately the pictures were taken with a crappy camera or "non-smart" phone so nothing there...

The advertiser location is/was in landsdown

Yip, but in reality could have been anywhere...all images taken with newer cameras and most smartphones embed certain information into every image taken.

Serial number of camera/phone and gps co-ordinaries too, using that data you can find the exact location the images were taken with google maps as well as using the serial number to see who the phone is/was registered to...normally a long shot but could always get lucky using that method

I'm now 100% sure that the thief "mtbking99" is selling the stolen bike as spares. Here is the exact wheelset on Google cache:

http://webcache.goog...n&ct=clnk&gl=za

MODS: Please help investigate and give all details (eg IP address) to the police!!!!!!!!

That may be the guy, esp considering he deleted the ad and user, good thing deleting the stuff just means we can't see it but admin will still have the info.

Also saw the Xt stuff and thought it was weird, not often someone sells an entire good condition top range used group incl the pedals/everything one go, normally it's incremental a few bits here, keeping the pedals, brakes not included etc.

Different rotors on those wheels.

Shimano vs avid.

May have stopped rotors to confuse things, tyres maybe not, can the OP confirm those were the tyres on the wheels when the bike was stolen?
