He didnt touch it for months, now he uses it. Weird how people dont want their things back...

Person X probably claimed from insurance and figured that it was lost forever

it's possible the person hasn't noticed they're missing anything yet.

but if no one claims it then you've done what you can - finders keepers - if you can't use it or don't want to - sell it - if you still feel bad - sell it and give 50% to your favorite charity. Win win

If I lost an item at a place I would go to the googles and type in "Item" lost at "Place" Lets hope that this thread pops up in the googles.

Well done on going through all this effort!

Not sure what it is that you found but this is what i did when i found a Bryton GPS which resulted in me tracking down the owner. Maybe if it's an electronic thingy you can do the same.

So one day whilst cycling in Tokai I picked up a Bryton GPS that had clearly fallen off someones bike. I left my name at the trail entrance as well as at the TMP office but no luck with anyone claiming it. I then approached the local bike shop and left my details there - still no luck. As a last resort I went online onto the Bryton South Africa website and made contact with the agent. I gave him the serial number and they could track the owner. 20 minutes later, the very happy owner phoned me to claim his GPS. Turned out that he was from JHB and was in Cape Town for the weekend and went for a ride with his brother (who lives in CT) when he lost the GPS. Searched for it for hours before giving it up for lost. His brother collected it from me the next day.

Felt really good that i could return it to it's rightful owner.

Why are so many cyclists being separated from their GPS units? I ask because I don't have one myself, but I do remember at Sani on several occasions passing teams looking for devices in the bushes, especially on downhills.

With all this losing of expensive gadgets.......mine will get some seriaaaas PRESTICK treatment to prevent that rattle and shake accidental loss during this weekend's activities.......can always remove PRESTICK later.

Because they don't have them attached to their wrists like they are supposed to ;)
