Does anyone know what the scene is like around 10:00 when the last groups start? Will there still be lots of spectators and family? I will need to get to the start without much delay. How long does the start stay "open" after 10 (what is the latest one can start?).

Its almost drips and drabs then like last year.

We just cruised in and rolled off. They start packing up at 10

Hey all, this year is my first Cycle Tour... I got a start group of 4G-7:58. I did a 4:13 94.7 without a seeding and am aiming for a sub 4. What are my chances of obtaining this goal and also how do I find a group with a similar time goal?

You would have to improve a lot to do a sub 4 argus with that 947 time. 947 times are like 30 odd min faster. Unfortunately you cant just "find" a group that has a similar goal. If the group your seeded in is going too slow for you then get up front and do some work to help get a faster time. I'm not sure the general time of that group, i'm sure someone here would know more or less what time 4G will do.

thanks. I am fitter now than my 94.7. Doing like 90km every sunday plus spinning at gym like 4 times a week

If you finish towards the front of your group you should be able to do a sub 4 from there. I'm in 4B this year and rode a 4:06 last year and I finished in the top third of that group. Didn't do any seeding races as I really just ride the Cycle Tour every year so I reckon I'm in a similar level to the group I had last year which was Z.

No ways I'm doing a sub 4 this year though. Hardly done any riding and carrying some serious kgs (not unlike other years though), just hope my legs have enough in them to haul me around the peninsula.

2013 Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour (109km)  2:52:44 26.07 18 66

2014 Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour (109km)  2:54:45 15.59   6 34

Note the weightings - the last 2 figures.  They've penalized my 2013 ACT by 18 points, and then weighted it by 66% to give me an overall index of 22.51 (1G), despite both ACTs having been an official seeding events.

Yes, I've queried it.

I'm reliably told that they know about this problem, are fixing it for those affected, and that there will be new seedings out next week.  Check RaceTec in the mean time for updates.

In the mean time, if you're affected, submit a query.  Use your 200 characters carefully. I'm told something like this is suitable (adapt according to the seeding series event should have been used):

CT2014 not taken at 100%.  Please recalculate and reseed

Last year was my first. Did 4:16 from the charity groups and did this with 3 months of weekend riding and a few midweek rides(no prior cycling before that for almost 17 years). So yes, I think it is possible.

Hi y'all,

some more newbie's questions:

Exactly how long and steep is Chappies?

and Suikerbossie?

I had a look at the profile map but I find it hard to estimate the distance

I actually find Smits to be tougher than Chappies and Suikerbossie, depending on the wind.

Chappies is about a 30 minute climb for average fit person I think, and Suikerbossie maybe 15 - 20 minutes. (Correct me if I am wrong)

They both beautiful climbs so sit back enjoy the scenery and before you know it you will be over the top :)

Don't worry about it!! Chappies is the most beautiful climb in the world! You wont feel a thing!

Suikerbossie is well known for the spectators and supporters, they will get you to the top!

Not far off, but I still would love to do the Stelvio before I die, which I believe should get that honours.
