I rode first tour in 2014. Very windy at the start. Those who have ridden many, what did 2014 compare like to other years? I see the times looked quite good - people breaking 3h in D group

Last year was positively peaceful compared to 2009 / 2010. The only ones that I remember (reently) that were considered perfect conditions were 2008 (my first) and 2013, and then last year picked up a bit again.

within the 1st 15kms and gets very congested in the later groups

congested enough to have some breakfast with a random family on the roadside, with a glass of something bubbly (if they have), or a g&t or a glass of wine or a beer (*spit, if you must*)...then you carry one again and you will still be in the masses as if nothing changed in the 15 minute break you had.

Wynberg Hill is what we locally refer to as Edinburgh Drive. It's moderately steep and just long enough to know you're gonna have to climb. Roughly 1km in length from where you go up the first kicker next to a Shell Garage called Paradise Motors til you crest the top of the hill. Glance left when you get there and you're not hanging your head in recovery to see some spectacular views but brace yourself and get excited for the fastest stretch as you approach the mineshaft downhill going down the M3 highway from just beyond the left turn ahead!

I'm in 7C, so yes, that's a later group!

but if it's so early in the race, I'll just want to get going!

You'll recognise it easily. That's where you'll (first) hear the bubbly corks popping! The sound may very likely be re-encountered at later stages along the route.  :whistling:

Well, they sorted me out. Moved from 3A to 2B, happy with that. (Would have been nice to start before group K though!)

My PPA index - 33.3. CTCT index - 46.9. The only timed races I have done are the 2013 Argus and 2014 Argus.

I have queried this. There seems to be some issues with their seeding software.

1990

1991

1993

1997

1998

were good years.

1992 was the worst wind ever. 2009 was a close second

Last year was far worse than 2013 which was windy but not unbearable.

From several veterans, I heard that 2014 was the worst/windiest since the infamous 2009.
