"As Dan Martin stepped off the Garmin bus, he shouted to his mechanic, “Hey, I’ve lost the keys to my bike, have you any spare keys for my bike?”" - From Cycling weekly when the team manager was interviewed by journalists.

Hahaha, I cracked myself

So what are you guys saying? He fell and the throttle got stuck? Hahahaha.

He was doing about 50km h. Google momentum, no not the insurance company, and gyroscopic forces. Been around for a while.

Have a good Friday

The problem is that it doesn't look like the bike is reacting as it should.

Some problems I see that makes me think it is motorized.

1. As he falls it looks like the rear wheel touches the ground. This happens before the bike starts to spin when he tries to pick it up. Given the amount of grip those tires have it should have brought the speed down from 50km/h or whatever he was doing.

2. Your understanding of momentum and gyroscopic forces are flawed. If the wheel still had enough energy in the rotation after the fall to cause that, the moment the rear wheel touched the ground the bike should have started off in it's spin at maximum speed almost instantaneously. From the video it looks as though the speed of the bike's rotation increases after the rider places it back on the ground.

I reckon all these accusations getting shown as being ridiculous just opens up the opportunity to actually use them under the radar. Doesn't really need to be science fiction, and probably much easier to hide than daoping being done in the past. Could help a rider on a day when he needs to recover, obviously stay under the radar rather than going for stage wins.

lol, half a simulation: lets see if the bike still does that AFTER the rear wheel has been rubbing on the road while bike+rider skids to a STOP. To those howling about momentum, get it in yer heads that friction will dissipate energy, including momentum. With road wheels being so light, very much in-line with weightweenie mentalities, they will lose momentum in a hurry.

On a serious note: So called "motors" are usually placed in the seat tube and drive the cranks. If he had a motor in his bike, then surely the cranks would also be turning with the wheels?

Usually.
