Not cool - my neck of the woods - please keep us informed of where the police take this.

Heal up soon - when I broke mine I was back on a spin bike almost immediately but it wasn't a plate story etc. the only problem is the cast can get quite manky with all the sweat. But you can get the doc to replace it every so often. Pick the bike under the aircon vents or blast with a big fan.

And do the physio exercises the doc gives you to strengthen the muscles and improve the flexibility. Mine is still sometimes a bit achey on long rides and when I step up my hours so the rehab is important.

It's far from 100% but i had no issues riding the Baviaans.

From a strength point of view it's pretty useless. I have just learnt, very quickly, how to go about using it. Twisting/turning it from side to side, is still sensitive.

Riding my road and mtb is not a hassle though. I've come off a few times already and I know about it afterwards, but nothing that has stopped me from riding.

It will take ages to get 100%, if ever, but i'm pretty happy with where it is at so soon after.

I think W2W in 2 months time might be a challenge. Purely from a route technicallity point of view - you don't really want to hurt that wrist in a fall so soon after. I rode Die Burger MTB which was basically 2 months after. I was a bit desperate to try and get some fitness in for Baviaans.

The wrist was OK to ride with but if you come off you want to make sure your wrist isn't involved. Only problem is that when you do come off, generally there is not time to think about whether you should break a fall with your hand, or not. It's a reaction unfortunately.

I rode with the brace they gave me. Uncomfortable, but i managed.

Not worth pushing it.

Let the wrist heal 100 % or it is GOING to give you flack for a LONG time.

I broke mine badly in 1992 and the Dr set it badly. Still give me trouble every now and again.

Hi Stevief

1. I would encourage you to get a lawyer to claim your expenses from the driver

2. Keep pressing the SAPS to follow up the criminal case

3. Keep the brace on for as long as your orthopod ordered

4 Train like mad on the IDT in the meantime, high intensity intervals especially

5, When you start riding again, wear a wrist brace because it will be painful and weak and easily damaged if you crash on it again

6. Think carefully about doing or canning W2W

(I've broken my right wrist twice. I once even rode the Argus with the cast still on. I just put a massive bundle of bar tape on the right so I could kind of grip it and I put a steep rise stem on to make me more upright and take weight off the hands. I don't do crazy stuff like that anymore. )

3months healing then 3months physio=6 months NO riding!

This was mine...

I could have ridden within 6 months but in the end it was 6 months of no serious riding, I'm afraid.

Biggest thing is if you fall again... it's always onto that body part that was injured.. sod's law

But with pins the bones are pretty secure, I never had a cast, just a brace that I took off for showering

I think spinning and exercise bike are your best options and you will know when you're ready.. but don't push it to start with.

In the end I found riding was more effective than physio for recovering wrist movement, other than the physio lady had ulteria motives!!

And I forgot.. your age makes a big difference to healing time.... I'm a senior :whistling:

Damn now 6 months is really going to be hard. I'm 43 so not a spring chicken.

24 weeks

It'll be over before you know it...:-)

All the best, man.

Give recovery the full go.

I had one of the worst wrist fractures you could have at 41years old (similar to X-ray above). Was MTBing just over 3 months later. I got close to full flexibilty of wrist and got strength to a point where it was slightly greater than my dominant hand. So stronger that before... Apparently I'm gifted in the way that I heal well haha. But most importantly, I went to one of the best hand physios in the country. The exercises and stretches she gave I always did religiously. Being quite athletic, my body always responds well to exercise.

However, a minor fall at the wrong angle 3 months ago resulted in a compound fracture of both forearm bones. Doc reckons that although the plate makes the wrist strong, it severely decreases the flexibilty of the bone. Anyway, I'm now titanium from elbow to wrist with pins and plates. I healed up fast again and surprisingly was back MTBing in 2.5 months.

Btw, hope you get sorted with your accident claim.
