Planning to do some shopping online - cycling purchases, but stressing about the Postal Service that is on strike. Has anyone done on line shopping lately? Is there still problems/delays?

Why are the muppets striking again?

They were on strike last year for almost 3months and had their grievances addressed.

This country is becoming a hole, seems no-one has the balls the get things on track

Just ordered through Takealot. No problems. 2 days with courier service. If you have the option, go courier. Customs on international orders however........ that could be a different story....

Kalahari is not accepting any orders for postal delivery because of the strike, only the more expensive courier option. When will these strikers wake up to the fact that they won't have a job once we stop using the post office altogether...  because it's too unreliable

Online shopping = safe

Online shopping using SAPost for delivery = goodbye money.

What I do is add to the footnotes/comments area "DO NOT MAKE USE OF SA POST OFFICE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE". seems to work.

Ordered some fire optic sites from the US and an iPhone battery from the UK a couple of weeks back. Seriously hoping it lands on my desk. Sellers did not have a courier option  :(

I also ordered a phone-cover from UK just over a month ago- was lost/stolen and I'd big bucks that it was at sa post. Ended up requesting a replacement OR refund at the sellers discretion- got refunded

I have the same problem with some Mavic spares from USA, courier is just too expensive, it's been more than a month now...

SA Post Office Strike

Delays can be expected on SA Post Office and Speed Services parcels as the Post Office is currently on Strike.
Update (25/09/2014) via SAPO Facebook
Industrial action by casual postal workers continues to have a detrimental effect on mail delivery. This morning, the Witspos, Germiston and International mail centres are operational, but not at full capacity. Tshwane and Krugersdorp Mail Centres are not operational. CapeMaIl, the sorting centre in Cape Town, is operational but not at full capacity. The mail centre in Bloemfontein is not operational. Post Office management is still continuously meeting with striking workers to solve the impasse, and is using the services the SA Police and other security services to ward off possible violence. If incidents of violence do occur, the Post Office will lay charges with the SA Police.

If you are in no rush for the item then order, otherwise do courier

Ordered an XT groupo from CRC late August. Delivery via priority mail.

Big mistake - still waiting.

Tracking indicates "At international Hub"

Just hope that I dont have to Kiss my 6k goodbye

If it is at JHB Int Mail Centre you can go and collect from there

This bl00dy thing, lets try this again...

------------------

Just imagine the improvement, in speed and reduction in cost if SAPO outsourced all parcel delivery to independent courier companies.

Would also reduce the disappear/loss down the "redistribution" black hole.
