I'm glad we have the cradle and I'm glad a lot of cyclists use the cradle. It's the one place where cyclists are noticed in their masses and people are forced to actually be aware of us. And cyclelab are not the only culprits, you can find any club on any given day and find something wrong with the way they're riding. If you were alone in the cradle those cars and motorbikes would be flying past you at 120. Because motorists are generally inconsiderate assholes just as they like to label cyclists that.

I was referring to the stretch of beyers naude going north from the Krugersdorp highway to heia safari...

The thing that most of us tend to forget is that if a car has to choose between hitting an oncoming truck / bus / homicidal taxi or sideswiping a guy on a bike who is riding on the RHS of the yellow line....well, it's a simple choice, isn't it?

I don't want to argue the rights and wrongs of motorists' behavior from a hospital bed or a mortuary.

Cyclelab route doesn't include that section of the road?? They turn out away from the lab past valverde and back to the lab right after valverde. Your argument is now invalid, sir.

A lot of people calling the piece of tar left of the yellow line a "cycle lane." Bzzz wrong. It's an emergency lane. And there are no laws to say that cyclists have to ride in the emergency lane.

And motorists think cyclists are selfish:

The problem is because cyclist are slower, we sometimes delay motorist by a little bit. This somehow makes it OK for the impatient motorists to take actions that put our lives at risk. Not cool.

If there is a team car following you there is 100% chance you cannot be rammed from behind by someone on the phone.  (Check the threads on the hub this week) Sorry, my life is worth more than 2 minutes of your time.

Get over it, move on, bring on Friday!

No Cycling this weekend so a little frustrated.

Generally tend to agree with you. But they have dashed that yellow line and put up cycling signs. I am hoping our government is trying to encourage cyclists to ride left of the dashed line and get cyclists and the motorists to be friends.

The statement above does not apply to all the muck that accumulates in the yellow lane area, stones, bottles, rocks, pot holes, cycle lab cyclists going too slow....... etc etc

Our government? you mean the useless anc fools? The same ones that converted a high traffic 2 lane road in sandton to 1 lane and an unusable unsafe "cycling" (taxi) lane? If you rely on our current government, I hope you have insurance for everything because they want your stuff and your life won't get in their way.

As for the cradle issue- I'm from further South and its far to travel there, but spiteful mtb is spiteful and I may make an appearance... push some hoggers around

Must be a roadie thing, look at how us MTB'ers do it. All nice and neat in single file

That's because they are checking to see if the first dude doesn't wipe in the mud crossing, He HE

The other thing that bugs me is the " team cars" following the hubby and making a nuisance of themselves.

Sorry, but I disagree strongly with this comment.

Anyone ~ hubby, boyfriend, girlfriend, whatever ~ who is lucky enough to have a support car following them, and prevent them being rear ended, is very fortunate imo.

I've never had a problem with any of them in the Cradle, the slower guys have always allowed me to pass easily, and the faster ones go by like any other car would.

My wife rides almost every weekend with the cyclab groups and lately she has told me howw busy and dangerous the cradle has been couse there have been so many slow riders getting in there way! I assume they are the same people who are complaining about cycelab overtaking them and using up the lanes!

Is there any other option for them???

How about get your slow ass out the way!

What really p*sses me off more than anything, is the lack of bikinis in the cradle. And trees. Not necessarily paired together. I also feel that the road is too dark in colour. I prefer a paler shade of asphalt.

The problem I have is that pretty soon every second cyclist will have a car following them, I support the larger groups having a car behind them because they generally need more space on the road and it acts as a buffer for them.( kinda like an abnormal load convoy)

Maybe I worded it wrong but when the person driving the follow car becomes a hazard to the other cyclists because they don't know what to do when passing slower groups or being passed by faster ones then it's time to rethink the safety aspect. I am also referring to the weekend mornings when there are plenty of cyclists on the road , if it's during the week or quiet then you are 100% right.

If there is so much glass and 'debris' in the cycle lane, have none of the clubs thought about spending some money and maintaining the lane instead of complaining about it? I don't know but you could call them the Cradle Fairies or something like that!!!
