Thankfully only the handlebar was in contact with the ground before I realised and stopped! The wheel straps saved the day.

Shees.. lucky could've been a lot worse. . Happened to us once.. hubby didn't strap everything on properly and similar damage to my bike, added it wasn't on the freeway but coming back from Giba.. some poor oke was flashing and hooting for us to stop..to say hubby was in the dog box is putting it mildly ..

That horrible feeling you get when you look in the rear view mirror and only see one bike where two bikes should be.

First thought was that the bike had come off miles back. Felt sick :-(

Bet I never forget to tighten properly again!

I reversed into a tree at NF yesterday with bikes and rack on the car. I was looking directly at it through the rearview but couldn't see it because of the stuff attached to the car. Luckily the rack took 100% of the impact and no damage was caused at all...other than to my pride of course.

My greatest fear is that something like all this happens when I am in charge of loading bikes and driving[emoji15] I'll never get out of the dog box..

Lucky!! Seriously lucky!

And... I'm not alone! Mind you, my dearly beloved, middle-aged and only MTB took a bit more of a pounding, being dragged for what felt like ages before we stopped. It's truly scary what tar can do. Front wheel bore the brunt with the tyre totally shredded where it made contact. However, new tyre and a hub service plus a little sanding of the rim sorted it out. Boy am I impressed with Mavic rims, DT Swiss spokes and CRCs build quality. Wheel wasn't even out of true. But the best part is, my friends insisted on paying for repairs as they felt they were at fault for not securing the bike properly. Am truly grateful for friends like that.

The realisation though of what that noise was, then the time it took to slow down and the feeling when we stopped. I was last to get out of the car to see what was left.

Check, double-check and check again!

Bonus, glad your wheel straps were there to save (most of) the day!!

Me too.

We didn't even pack in a hurry or anything. No rush, cruising home after a great morning ride . . .

I've lost a couple of CM from the LHS. Don't think I can just make do with new grips :-(

Lucky there dude!

I know a mechanic who was transporting bikes for J2C. They were on a towbar rack on the back of a trailer. Trailer got into such a violent fishtail that the two bikes broke all the securing straps and flung themselves into the bushes. Only one was found but wasn't much left of it.
