Last week a friend was transporting 30 mtb's from Pta to Wildernes all boxed for a mtb tour starting in Wildernes.

3 came off without him knowing it .

They were picked up by 2 guys in a bakkie and taken to the Police in Hanover . One of the boxes had a tel nr written on it . The Police phoned the owner who phoned me who had the nr of the driver .

I phoned the driver who turned back and collected all 3 bikes .

One had minimal damage .

Now this is a nice story! There are still good people around.

On securing the bike - I use additional Gear Ties (rubberized wires) to secure the bikes to each other and the bike rack. Those ties are almost as good as my dad's pocket knife. I use them all the time - everywhere!

So the bottle cages, fork, chain, crank, seat post, brakes and garmin mount survived! Wow, did this go for a full dismount or was this also a drag along the ground exercise?

I got to a ride the other day and the top bar had wiggled almost completly off. I now check 3 or 4 times.

Hope everything gets replaced quick and with as little time off the bike!

OP I feel your pain! My brand new Rumor came off the rack when we fetched it from Lynnwood Cycles, thankfully just a flat spot on the back tyre...we were doing 120 on the R21 in the fast lane, thankfully my awesome husband saw it happening and could pull off safely! Ek wou nie kyk nie ek was skoon naar!!! Was SO happy that there was no big damage!

My rack is a Thule Euroway 921.

In all respects it's a very good rack. My problem was entirely operator error :-(
