Winner, winner chicken dinner!

That's how I hope my little one will progress over the years. He's already getting used to his MUNA bike.

Mine is just not interested

He likes the bmx track though, but no bmx near to me

I bumped my girls up last week.  Four and a half year old moved onto a 16" Specialized (first Spaz I've bought) - it was her first pedal bike, and she got it on the first try in Tokai.  The balance, braking and control is getting better everyday!  I just can't run that fast for more than a few minutes though...

And the three year old got 'upgraded' to the Kiddimoto balance bike. And she was balancing feet up on the downhills straight away too!

Proud dad!

Reviving an old thread here... Sort of....

My youngest turns 7 in a few months. He's not the biggest oke around either. He's currently tearing around the garden and Giba on a 12 year old Raleigh 16" MTB. Really enjoys the BMX track at Giba.

Want to get him a new bike for his birthday but don't want to get a BMX (I have a Giant GFR in the garage that he will grow into that his older brother doesn't use)

Took him with to PMB to watch the KZN DH race this past weekend and he seemed to enjoy it. Asked him if he would like to do some DH and he said no problem as long as he could practice a bit first :D

Personally I see no fun or enjoyment in XCO or Marathon racing...So I won't have him up at 5 am with a heart rate monitor strapped to his chest. A trail ride with mates or the kids when they are bigger is where I see the most enjoyment. SO.... the question to anybody that has been down this road is as follows:

What do I buy him? I was thinking of a 20" (I think a 24" would be too big) It would be great for the Waterfall ride at Giba, it would get him around the BMX track as well and I am pretty sure I saw a Sprog riding one at this weekend's KZN Provincial... (KONA I think it was) Might even throw on a shorter stem and wider bars...

Had a look at the Shredder bikes but I can see that headed into the "Sorry how much???" category... Love the style of bike though

My almost 6/yo has a silverback - nice light frame for a 20" (components weigh a ton) - Momsen also do fairly nice kids bikes - I am resigned to the fact that they will grow faster than they will wear bikes out.

Greg - those 2 lighties are Nippers - so 8 to 10 years old - both are on 24inch Kona Stinky's

Id say for your oke a 20 or 24 inch is fine - A little XC bike would be fine - then maybe add in a slightly longer fork to slacken it out a bit.

I will keep a look out for you
