Heads up. The new price for casual MTB permits is increasing fro R45 to R60 that is a 33.33% increase. How can these money grabbers justify this?

if true that deserves a reaction from the mtb community, will be beyond the average family to go ride your mtb on tokia mountain then.

If I look at how much it cost me for a 1 year Wild Card for a family of 4, to enter ALL our National parks as well as ALL the Cape Nature parks for 1 full year, unlimited, then the Tokai Activity card and the day entry fee, seems very much out of line. The only explanation that I can think of is GREED! SANParks, you have to wake up to the fact that you are going to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs for you!

AFAIK It was R15 not that long ago, maybe 8/9 years. If they ringfenced some of it for the trails it would be a bit more undestandable.

I remember it being R2.00 entry. That was around 1997 or 1998.

The price went up to R5.00 and it was a shocker...

I go about 3 times a year and every year it gets worse. The new access road is now a hazard as the signage to the speed bumps is inadequate and dangerous. In fact the speed humps constructed with brick and no chevrons are painted on the humps which makes them illegal according to road signage manual. So if anyone damages there car they would be liable.

Since they cut the pine plantation down, strangely that they did this where the official single tracks are and not on the other side. There is now a proliferation of Black Wattle. Is this the new money source to create sales in braai wood?

Now that we have a forest of Wattle there now is a serious management problem, whereas Pine forest would have been easier. I am a supporter to bring back the indigenous but they haven't staged this very well.

Aside from the complete exploitation of cyclists for no visible return, the state of the mountain is an absolute disgrace. The new access road, renovation of offices and new coffee shop should be low on the list of priorties when you have a mountain full of invasive species, especially as a lack of funds is cited as the reason that nothing is being done about it.

I dont ride there too often. but I thought the R45 was heavy, specially because none of it gets to the guys spending hours making the trails. This is disappointing. Guess i will be seeing even less of Tokai now

Agreed, the major concern is that not a cent of this money goes to trail maintenance or building so it does stink of San Parks cashing in.
