This route is suitable for all levels of riders (Titans, Legends, Warriors & Spartan Queens)

This is a key point to all the heroes out there. Not everyone knows the route, and per the website it was billed a course for everyone. Thats totally irresponsible in my opinion.

I am so sorry to hear about this and all the other casualties and hope you heal to cycle another day.

As someone who has also visited the casualty department due to the silliness of another rider I can fully commiserate with you but unfortunately this is intrinsically a dangerous sport and compounded by the fact that this event, with all the the hype and easy accesibility virtually guaranteed that too many inexperienced and unskilled riders would be participating. This alone put me off completely, let alone that there were quiet a few sections even some better cyclists would have approached with caution. Not sure whether there were any `chicken runs` or easier detours along the way and whether the obstacles were in any way categorized, but even with that there are always those who will overestimate their abilities, often to the detriment of those following.

I still remeber telling my wife on Saturday as we rode along part of the route that Discovery would be taking a big knock that week. I shudder to think what would have happened if it had started to rain during the race.

What i find totally unacceptable is that you were left lying there for 4 hours, right in the middle of Parkview, less than 3 kilometres away from the Millpark clinic. That is shocking and must be taken up with the organisers.

Good luck with the recovery and thanks for the feedback.

Actually, she suffered third-degree burns on 6% of her skin and lesser burns over 16%. She was in hospital for 8 days for a skin graft. During this time, she lost 9 kg, nearly 20% of her body weight - reducing her to 38 kg. She suffered "permanent disfigurement" after the incident and was "partially disabled for up to two years afterwards".

Was she drinking a hot cup of molten lava? What type of coffee does that to you? Was she driving with the coffee in her lap?

But it's still just coffee. If I spill a kettle of boiling water over myself I don't sue the people that made the kettle.

To the OP, assuming that you are still set on never riding again, is your bike Red and Black by any chance?

Just kidding bro, hope you heal up quick and get back in the saddle again soon. I really like the "don't let the race beat you" post, read that one again and you will see the oke is really being genuine. You need to have mates like that in life or even better... you need to be a mate like that if possible.

Almost a month since the accident and crushed femoral neck and head..

Walking on crutches ,n doing physio ..but ordered to slow down as Healing is a steady process and I'm ahead of the curve.. My hip cartlidge repair can't be rushed..

The frustration of the healing process of this injury is the hardest ..I'm used to riding and spinning and freedom

Now .... A walk on crutches of 20min = workout...I've dropped 10kg ...

Good luck to all doing the 94.7 MTB race and next weekends road race ..

I am convinced I will not race again, to go through this once is soul destroying enough... I will remain a cycling fan and I will build more bicycles ...

I will ride again but only casually... To enjoy the ride.

And that is how the healing begins! Don't look to far into the future rather focus on how the 20mins becomes 21 and celebrate that.

MTB0007 I sincerely hope that you will make a complete and full recovery. The human body has an amazing ability to repair itself. I know it's gonna be a long, hard and sometimes frustrating road ahead, even with the possibility of a setback or two, but from the drift you displayed in your last paragraph I would say that your mindset is already changing for the better.

I broke the head off my Femur in 2011 and am back to full strength after 6 months and I even made the wine to whales on my Titanium pins. Never give up if you love your sport.
