Gen Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 I wonder what weird stuff the rest day will bring this time round.
Prince Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 So four racing days left. They will have to give it a serious go everyday as they will never get 3 mins up Alpe d'Huez.
'Dale Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Time for Quintana to start denting that lead held by the maillot jauneThe pace will be intense, I'm sure Tomorrow's pain cave: http://www.letour.fr/PHOTOS/TDF/2015/1700/PROFIL.png

Zatopek Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Niballi impressed me like I said. He gapped the peleton and picked up a little time with a very smooth ride. Sagan took huge risks and gained nothing for it. I am pretty sure I did get the splits wrong on Sagan chasing the lead guy but I would like to see the times between Sagan and Niballi on that downhill. Be surprised if there was a big difference. To be honest I think it's time to change these grand tours. Or change back a little bit. It always favors climbers these days. Was not always like that. A course could be made that gave riders like Sagan a chance of taking the GC. From 10km to go to the right turn onto the flat road at the bottom - Sagan was 15 seconds quicker. (@50km/h that is equal to a 208 meter gap) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OoLUuKYbX0
Imploder Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 So what are chances of MTN Q finishing the team comp in yellow on Sunday? Do they just try load the breakaways each day?
nochain Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 And on the topic of chilled talent with a sense of humor how about our homegrown talent Greg Minaar. He is as funny as hell and is only the most successful DH racer of all time.Difference is Minaar knows how to win the big moments...Sagan on the other hand still need to learn. As good as he is he will never be a legend in my eyes unless he starts to win bike races. It's almost as if he is good at so many things but he is not great at one thing(except winning green jerseys) and that could be a big problem in cycling.I don't think he will get any better than he is right now from a performance perspective so if this is the strongest possible version of Sagan then its proof enough that he needs to change how he races with the talent he's got.

We mustn't forget that he's still a baby (still in the white jersey comp) and still a few years away from maturing fully as a rider. Pro cyclists age peak is around 29 - 32 years. He's still developing. I think he can only get better from here. Picture a 30 year old Sagan in 2020. Physically fully developed, battle hardened and experienced. And with a team built around him like Quickstep's Classics squad was for Tommeke... unstoppable.
