But can I link it to strava? :w00t:

you will be able to launch it from the Band yes.

From http://www.cnet.com/au/news/microsoft-band-is-a-windows-phone-fitness-tracker-that-works-with-android-and-iphone-too/

That's where many fitness bands stop. But because the Microsoft Band syncs with your phone, it can also offer you notifications about new messages, events and social network updates, showing your incoming calls and texts or a short preview of new emails and reminders from your calendar. When you get a new message you can fire back a pre-set response (although that doesn't work if you have an iPhone). There's an alarm too, to wake you up or let you know when it's time for your next appointment.

Erm yes, the Gear Fit does the same. Not impressed.

Which century are you living in?

Sure there were some crashes in older windows - and Im talking early xp and back - but I have not seen a crash or bluescreen in years and I have well over 100 windows machines under my maintenance.

The old "microsoft products crash often" argument is lame, the macs that our wed dev division have way more problems than the windows machines.

the last proper thing MS made was XP

Seriously, that is what you take out of that. Sorry I made a joke about Microsoft and perpetuated a stereotype -- but just as a matter of record my home computer, which is about two years old, has been crashing a lot recently (but I am not suggesting that is Microsoft's fault) -- but then two of the old Macs we have at home-work also crash about once a month (but the one is about 10 years old and the other about five -- I don't think the newer one has ever crashed).

There wasnt much else to take out of it.

I have a base of linux, apple and microsoft products that I support with over 100 servers and 500+ desktops.

So Im pretty familiar with the problems the various OS have.

Dont take it personally it was more of a rant about stereotypes, and after all its Friday :P

Don't think Garmin or Suunto are losing much sleep over this. What I did get my grubby paws on recently was the new Garmin 920XT, very tempted to get one even though I'm not a triathlete.

if you have to have your phone with you when doing the exercise then its a big fail

This:

"To use the Microsoft Band and Microsoft Health, you need a Windows Phone device with the 8.1 update, an iPhone running iOS 7.1 or 8, or an Android phone running 4.3 or 4.4. You need Bluetooth to pair the Band with your phone."

Windows 7 was much better, it was built on the server 2008 kernel for the stability factor with added theme support.

does not change the fact that i'll stick with my Garmin.

If it is anything like the 910, and better, get it.

Just wish the batteries would last longer, else happy with mine...although it hasn't seen water yet  you know....it's cold and stuff.

Much lighter than the 910 and not quite as bulky. If required can connect to phone & count steps.

PS: take that 910 for a open water swim

I wasnt sure how to take that - my interpretation is that you needed that to upload your data - but you may be 100% correct - the device may have zero storage capabilities and use the phone to do the storing....FAIL

the fact that you say Garmin and Suunto in the title without even mentioning Polar just shows how careful a market leader needs to be in this industry.

not released yet, but the one to watch (excuse the pun) is the Apple version...(which from the website seems an accessory for kissing?)

I've got the Sony Smartband and I love it.

The main thing for me is that it vibrates when I move more than 10 metres away from my phone.  This is a big thing for me as I often leave my phone at home.

The other really useful feature is that it vibrates when I get a call or a message.  Being in meetings often my phone is always on silent which results in me missing a lot of calls if my phone is on my desk, in my handbag or in my camelbak  (I missed work standby calls because of this).

The logging is also interesting.  I like steps and sleep monitoring most.  Hate that fact that it monitors the time I spend on social media, its quite scary.  Good thing it doesn't monitor the time I spend on the hub!

Was thinking about buying the Smartband 2 as soon as its released as it has the little screen like the Microsoft band where you can read your messages etc.  What I like about the Microsoft band is that heart rate and GPS, not sure if the sony will have this.

Someone mentioned it not being waterproof?  That is surprising.  My Sony is waterproof and for me that is something that's non-negotiable for anything I wear on my wrist.

meh...let's see what it can actually do behind all the schmarketing. seems like they have flipped the world of metallurgy upside down with some very impressive results.

For Apple Watch, we created a new alloy of 7000 Series aluminum that’s 60 percent stronger than standard alloys. Yet it’s very light. Together with the Ion-X glass covering the display, it makes the Sport collection watches up to 30 percent lighter than our stainless steel models. It’s also exceptionally pure, with a beautifully consistent appearance that’s difficult to achieve with traditional aluminum alloys.
