Performance enhancing substances among amateurs

You know what realllllyyyy gets me?

I don't trust the test one little bit.

Thing is.

The guys that actually do have the arrogance and balls to dope in Vets, actually knows how to do it is such a way not to get caught.

So the test....in my opinion....is just a BS story.

But that is just me.

Do you know who they are?

For us that's a bit on the slow/inexperienced side. I'll try to simplify.

I fudged an urine test, and passed.

Yes. I gathered that much. I was more wondering...the how?

I realise this is going to be incorrect but from you swiping your dipstick to get a peloton average, my conclusion was that...

1. You couldn't piss so you dipped your penis into someone else's piss cup.

2. You then flailed your penis into your own cup so a few drops of someone else's urine is now in your cup

3. Rinse and repeat with the remaining cups

4. You have now used your dipstick and you have a peloton average

5. Your penis has also now gone for a swim in a lot of urine. That's cool. Not judging.

Can you now see how I wanted some clarification? I have never claimed to be a smart man

Drug Free do test athletes in and out of competition. I just wish Drug Free would test more athletes across all the cycle sport (Road, MTB, BMX & Track) enviroment. In my opinion, a person spending money on fast wheels and a high end coach, has money to buy fast pharmaceuticals.

I asked Drug Free to publish the results of all tests, Good and Bad. Their answer was they only publish those who fail. I think this is wrong. We should be able to see those who are clean winning events. This will give credibility to the amateurs who train hard and get results.

What really gets first me is that there are cheats in amateur racing.

I totally agree. There is nothing wrong with the athlete giving permission to publish negative results.

As much as everyone who gets beaten by someone in a age cat or sees a age cat rider do well amongst elite kids doesn't mean they doping. Its not as big as everyone makes it out to be, yes it happens but not like its exaggerated. not any more.

I have age group athletes that train better and more consistently than many Elite riders, this alone allows them to make significant gains where a Elite kid is just hacking or its to cold, to hot, woke up late, had a fight on Tinder etc etc.

A lot of vets have been acing for MANY years and that alone especially in road counts a lot when it comes to tactics, bunch position and when to use power.

I often find successful age group riders in Business approach their training with the same focus which yields results. Often elites kids today cant ride cause its raining or they cant find their arm warmers. Or best, I never looked at my program until 2pm today and didnt see I had to do "X" and I cant do that now.

Look what age are winning the Marathons, the Stage races in MTB sans a few and then look especially in the WC who are winning road races. Im not bashing current Elite crop as many are good and focused but the majority aren't and its sad to see as they are better than their results show - yes flame away.

Doping isnt as wide spread in Vets as its made out, there are a handful yes as I said and those who know, have a good idea who they are.

my 2c.

Just another thought to add.

As in the Elites, its not always just the guys who win who are on the sauce.

It doesn't bother me much.  It is actually moer funny.

To spend 1c or spend 1 minute of time to try and cheat just to keep up with the amateurs, is laughable.

You are actually right.

Do you know who they are?

How would you know for sure?

You hear stories.  You see amazing ups and downs.

How do you know?  Get proof?

And again........being amateur.....it really does not matter.  If being stupid and doing stupid just to fuel his or her ego is their thing, so be it.  I really don't care.

What I get out of my sport and training is what matters to me.

The great challenge with being an amateur is be be able to balance, work, sport, family, studies, and life into something that resembles sense.  The rules for professional sport and competitive sport have become so intrusive that soon this balance will not be possible.

It will almost be impossible to take any flu meds, drink coffee or other day to day things, because of the fear WADA will knock on your door.

I think we all need to take a chill pill, accept that sport only plays a small part in our lives, and that our daughters and sons, and colleagues at work don't really give a rats A$$ if we win a local, provincial or even national race on Saturday or not.

Going to world's as an age grouper is more of a holiday than the end of the world.

You think we have it bad in cycling, imagine a sport based on fitness(with some skill) where there are professionals earning money and there is zero dope testing happening...

and yes there is such a sport, which only in a few events accross the world are starting to bring drug testing into the sport, locally you can walk away with 10K prize money from each event with no worries at at about WADA...

Life is hard/busy so its okay to dope?

Impossible to take flu medication? - Why are you competing if you have the friggin flu?

Impossible to drink coffee before a race? - If you are drinking enough coffee to breach acceptable limits, then you were definitely drinking that coffee with the intent to gain a performance benefit and not because you enjoy the rich aromatic Arabica roasts.

Impossible to enjoy other day to day things? - What like water? Not sure what day to day substances you take that would cause WADA to take an interest.

Come now. Lets not pretend like anyone here races to impress our colleagues. We ride our bikes and race them because thats what we love. If you need to cheat to enjoy your hobby, then thats really messed up and I can't see how you can justify it because your work and home commitments are hectic.

No I am way to scrawny for angry fit and any physical effort in a 'box' is usually purely for pleasure...

Also wasn't referring to X-fit, had diff sport in mind...

You seem to miss the point totally.

If you have to dope to compete in amateur sport then you are in the wrong place.

Also for WADA or Drugs Free South Africa, to worry itself with age group amateur sport, is like trying to kill a fly with a bull dozer.

So if you are getting your knicker in a knot about age group (VET) doping you are as much a loser as the Vet that dopes to win.

Yoh, thats a little rough. Maybe some people are not as "ok" with cheating as what you are.
