Renovation costs is much higher. They are going ahead with it without spec. C29er is way off on the three years. The insistence of the segregated store only started at the end of last year according to bridge. 4 mins later spec pulled the plug.

there are three sides to every story...

What would it take Bridge to go Italian....I'm thinking Colnago's ..Pinarello's ... Bianchi's.....lots of Campi ..gruppo's..and all the kit that goes with it.....now that is a concept I can live with....☺

Question is do they sell Chinna's as well? If not they do not need Spez as they are doing awesome Turnover anyway.

 Sorry left field I know...............

I don't think I'm missing the point at all.

Specialized have decided, as part of their international marketing strategy, to adopt a franchise based retail model with dedicated stores.

Now what is common in the franchise business, and why it's popular for brands is that the entrepreneur brings some things to the table, normally cash, facilities and access to customers through an ongoing relationship, while the franchisor gives the product and the systems,

You have ignored the single biggest aspect the franchisor brings to the party, and frankly the only one of absolute benefit to the franchisee. A recognisable brand.

If you are opening a business in any competitive market, your challenge is first and foremost getting feet through the door. Having a big "M" above your door helps you sell hamburgers, even if you could make a better one yourself. You pay over the top for the systems and the product, but is made worthwhile because you do not have the risk and cost of establishing your name.

What is the benefit to the ESTABLISHED bike shop that has carried the cost and risk of building up a loyal following, to give it up to become a "cookie cutter" replica of a store down the road?

What you get from a franchise is standardised service, product and anonymity.

We don't support a bike shop because of standardisation of service but precisely because of differentiated service and a personal relationship with the store.

I understand their model, but in my opinion it is cynical and exploits the work individual stores have done to establish themselves in a competitive market without giving much in return, and certainly nothing the stores did not have before.

It we be cheaper to buy a top of the range special edition S-Works after the epic and bid on it compared to buying a brand new one at a concept store  :whistling:

Not bad? Huh? Thats a well used piece of not very practical mountain bike. Great if all you do is gravel roads and tar but why not buy a Giant Anthem and a road bike and still have bucks left over for a bike rack, top box, canoe, holiday away to ride etc etc...

I very much doubt that was what they bought it for ....

You cannot compare a Giant to a Specialized  :o It's like comparing a Porsche 911 to VW Beetle

Hey, I have an idea....

If you don't like Specialized bikes, parts, clothes, shops or how they conduct business DONT support them!

Thats the awesome thing about a free market, we can choose who we spend money on and who not.

If Spez keeps pissing people off, they WILL lose market share... simple.

But their market share is still growing, so from a shareholder perspective they will keep rolling out this strategy until returns start slowing. Its called BUSINESS!! Not on a little LBS level but on a global scale.

As for the Bridge vs Spez thing, I am sure there were legal binding contracts in place. They are big boys, I am sure they can handle this themselves. If they cannot, well are they cut out to work in a changing industry? Look how quick Cyclefunatic turned themselves around.

Trying to justify your hatred for a brand by latching onto something like the Bridge thing is very transparent, many of the guys bashing the brand here were doing so before the Bridge thing even came up.... just saying.

Bicycles, all we need them for is to keep fit, take us from A-B, make us feel like kids again and all of it with the least possible hassle and fuss.

That's all.

I agree 100% but I would still love one of these...
