Calling All Suspension Gurus

Hi, guys and gals.

 

It's finally time for me to pull the trigger and get a new fork and I'd like all my esteemed fellow Hubbers to give their 2c.

 

I'm basically looking for a 29er fork with a 15mm TA and 120mm of travel, for mostly XC riding, but must also be able to handle more aggressive trails. I've narrowed down my options to the following:

 

• X Fusion Trace RL2;
• Marzocchi 320LR;
• Manitou Minute Expert; and
• RS Reba RL Solo Air.

The Reba is probably the most sensible choice, with the others being a bit left field, but all of them have good reviews.

 

Your thoughts?

Hi not a guru at all but also check out the new RS Revelation. Have a SID on my one bike and Revelation on the other. It really is a awesome fork.

Thought about it, but the Revelation is a tad pricey.

I have been a Marzocchi fan all my life. If you can find parts and service it will be a nice fork.

 

And you definitely will not go wrong with the X fusion

That statement concerns me.

 

The guys at Gravity Imports are getting a shipment of new X Fusion forks in 3 weeks. It's also good to know the brand has some local backing.

Are there local importers for marzocchi?

I know johan bornman handled it but I don't know if someone else took over. Marzocchi used to have a 3 year no service stipulation warranty on their AM forks

Thought that the Reba would be the most sensible choice. Also, those new black stanchions are HOT!

I've heard that there's not much in it between a Reba and the SID.

This is going to be an expensive exercise for me. Currently running a 9mm QR - so I'm going to also get a new 15mm front hub (my current Spez HiLo hub can't be converted), have that rebuilt onto my wheel and then also get the fork installed.

2.Cheapest shock to service(RS dustwipes=R90 FOX dustwipes=R780 *anymodel)

3.Stansoins are tuff as nails

I bought a Fox F32 service kit from Cycle Lab the other day, was R400. 2 seals, foam rings and crush washers.

R 90 for Rock Shox dust wipers.

Reba is actually a "better" fork than the SID for the following reasons, in my opinion

 

1: Stiffer (more material, less weight weeny)

b: Same damper

iii: Cheaper

RS is best in the back up

X fusion is an amazing performance in the fork.

And I don't know of any problems with back up

I've read that the X Fusion is quite plush and has good performance, but it doesn't seem to be heavy on the tech, when compared to the RS. 

 

The Motion Control damper on the Reba sounds quite appealing, but don't know if it's just marketing fluff.
