I do not want this to become a mud slinging contest, but would really like to know what his thinking is.

i think that horse bolted when you started a thread asking what to do with the a-hole!!

i do however think this chap clearly is one, and needs to come to the party to either make right or at least apologize, as stated he may not have the ash to pay in the difference and may be embarrassed about this but that doesnt make playing games right or his actions any less wrong.

give him a day or so to see and think about the thread started here( you say you have sent on the link so him so he has probably already seen the post) and if no response name and shame so as to warn other about this person that is willing to take advantage of other peoples generosity.

Phone from someone else's phone - he'll pick up.

Play nice - going the abusive route from the start will make him less likely to comply. Sure being nice doesn't help with venting your stress or fluffing your ego but it is the best way to get what you want (money or kit).

and pray to G_d the shammy works with your tjommie? If I was sponsoring a DC team I'd want them to be training as a group in my kit months before the event. How much exposure does a sponsor of a mid-pack team get in an event with extensive road closures anyway?

I'm yet to find a shammy that does not work. The free ones I have seem to be the most comfortable.

I do understand how frustrating it can be because every year riders like to jump from one team to another team because of freebies... It causes lots of headaches for the captian or manager to get full team for DC.

I realised that maybe near the future, every rider must put down R500 or more until it is done, then recover the money back.....

This is the right answer. We all pay upfront and everyone gets refunded after expenses for weekend is calculated.

Riders must pay a non refundable commitment fee, equal to the riders portion of the Entry Fee.

Quick update. Hi promptly came back to me after after the mail and link to the post here. I am going to try and have a coffee with him when picking up the kit to have a chat.  Maybe we can walk away from this as friends.  It really felt harsh airing this on thehub, but was painted in a of niceness and was time to take out the stick.  Naming and shaming wont do anyone any good at this stage. Apologies that handbags weren't slung harder!

This was the first year that I were 'team manager' and to see the amount of effort that goes into the organisation. Lots learned and look forward to next year!

I have been burnt often enough when organizing events for friends that I now insist on full payment upfront.  I'd rather that the whole group trust me to pay refundable (i.e. sponsored) parts back, than for me to trust the whole group.

Even if you organize for friends, life happens, and I can't afford to let someone else's mishap become my loss.

In this case, OP can either go to the small claims court (though that seems like a daunting undertaking), or swallow the loss and name and shame.

*Edit - Fanie's update came while I was typing away.  Seems like the oke might see reason - always the best outcome!

I agree, but sometimes the sponsor paid for the entry fees and the manager must get riders together.  So in last minutes, they turned down or jumped to other team. It will be better for riders to pay and refund after race.. If they turn down, they will loose their substation fees.....

Hijack... Fanie, you keen to meet for a little drink around the 6th next month? No kit necessary? Oh, wait, that sounds weird....

The 6th is Moonlight Mass in Cape Town.... Just saying....

The exposure on the kit is almost zero, its all the social media, and other stuff you do for the sponsor the rest of the year.

I think we have given our sponsors a decent return on Investment I hope.

What am I to do if he ignores me.

4. Let it go and pay for the sponsors  set out of my own pocket as I am being unreasonable.

Here is a variation - send ALL your team mates a mail asking them to contribute to the cost of the kit - let them beat on him too.
