Building a Cyclo Cross bike

Super excited for the Swartberg 100 Gran Fondo.

Now I just need a bike!

I did something terrible to my 456 to see what a gravel grinder might be like. The HA is slack as... but it rips the gravel corners and feels stable at speed. I went for a road ride with my wife (she was on her roadie with 25c tyres) and I had to work harder than usual to ride along with her, so a fair amount of efficiency is lost but its still much easier than a 2.25 MTB tyre that is usually on this bike.

Nice Bodger, you should join me for a gravel ride next Tuesday? We do Occutsdal & Malaanshoogte around some of the Durbanville Farms.

P.S. what shifters\STI's & Rear Derailleur are you using?

456 setup:

Giant seek fork (all 1.1kgs of alu goodness)

Tektro mechanical disks 160mm rotors

Ultegra 6600 10speed STIs

rear mech is a 9speed SLX

cassette is 10speed 11-36XT

front ring is 34T NW.

Cassette and chain ring are from the bikes normal setup. I spin out alot with the 34. 36 cassette makes climbing a breeze but I'll probably go with a 32 on my final bike.

I'm looking at a Spaz Diverge Elite DSW. With a bit of a discount I think its actually not bad value and I really like how they have speced it. Can't believe I've just said that about a spaz.  :o

Are those Tektro brakes road specific? Or the MTB variety just used with road levers?

They are MTB calipers but the actuator arm can be moved so I changed the caliper throw and it works well now. In the standard setting the road levers hardly did anything.

Oh there is the small problem that the cable now curves quite alot (see my second photo) so the initial feel is a bit spongy before the cable gets to full tension but it adds a little modulation.

Thanks, good to know

Savage please review the Slate for us! Price?

I actually have the slate for this exact purpose for the next two weeks.

I have put it on my insurance for R60k. They are getting detailed costing for me this week.

Awesome....

Please note things like weight, gear ratios, brake feel, bar reach/drop, trail compliance and of course whether the lefty is an intrusion....

Am keen to read what you have to say.

Ok

I'm kind of desperate for the short term!!

To make a loooong story short.  I'm looking for 28 hole rims for my Cx bike (disk brake version).

Anyone that can help?

Eish, no help?????
