Hi guys.

I injured my back last week and have been suffering extensively since.

I need a good reference to a surgeon with a good knowledge with regards to back injuries.

If someone like V12man can give a reference that would be awesome.

Ouch man. Don't know who to recommend but I can offer my sympathies. Back pain sucks. After many years I have to thank my chiro and some lifestyle changes for helping me with the pain. Hope you get well soon.

I am sure he will. You could also enquire at Little Company of Mary. Our son had two operations in the last 6 weeks there and we are very satisfied with our whole experience. Hope you come right and heal up fast

TALUS is your Doc......PM him. Considering visiting him with a knee. Knee is fine, but the X-ray has a different view of matters.

Good luck. Hope you get sorted.

Rather see a neuro surgeon for a back problem. Little Company of Mary should have a few, and the hospital offers great service. The neurosurgeon who operated on my back is in Bloem unfortunately.

Do this.

As can be determined from his name, he operates further south in the body but he is Pretoria based and will be able to give you the names of guys who specialise in backs.

Beware: Pretoria is known as the spinal surgery capital of the world - LOTS of surgery done here...

Were I to read between the lines, I may come to the conclusion that occasionally surgery is done before all less invasive alternatives are exhausted.......

Apparently we're also the cesarean capital of the world, in the monied classes that is.

Where are you based?

My standard Recommendation is that you should avoid surgery as a first resort.... rather get a proper diagnosis first - then exhaust all possible non invasive alternatives before surgery....

Ideally, unless you already know exactly what is wrong, go to your GP who should be able to suggest what further assistance you might need and offer some referrals.

Just going straight out cold to an orthopaedic surgeon with no initial medical assessment kinda excludes any other options without even investigating them and it also leaves the orthopaedic guy with no proper medical history to start from.

I ended up with 6 fused vertebrae and no viable alternative but your case might have a less invasive solution...

Good luck
