Actually, there are a few mildly technical bits.

Even the jumps have been recently shown as do-able on a rigid no less...

*I wouldnt jump them personally but that doesnt mean they havent been jumped!

Agreed there are a number of technical bits on the Spruit and extended Spruit...Anyone who says otherwise hasn't looked hard enough. Try Melville Koppies as an example and I'm not talking about the dumbed down Juma version of Melville either, those that have done it will know what I'm talking about.

And Minnaar ripped up Karkloof on a cyclocross bike, does that mean those trails are also not tech?

All i'm saying is the Spruit is there for everyone's enjoyment, and offers something for everyone, unfortunately or fortunately you can't control who does what, but if you put all the discrepancies aside it's a lekker place to ride... Just get irritated when people knock it because it's actually a very well designed and clever green-belt system through an amazing city, that's all.

The best part of the Spruit is you don't need to pack water or food as you can pick fruit along the way and drink the nice cool water whilst enjoying the super highway.

Now you got me wanting to move to joburg. Thanks a lot.

I often have gripes about behavior on the Spruit, but what I don't understand is why people continuously knock the Spruit as 'not proper' mountain biking. !

I think it's mostly said tongue in cheek, if it was so terrible, it would not be so busy.

I just have to wonder when all The Spruit legends and keepers of the holy are going to get over themselves .

Yup. Spot on Wyatt.

Spruit Bashers have been shown up on many occasions as sycophants. It's cool to look down your nose at Spruit Rats.

Problem with that is; its actually a damn fine ride and can be made into a tough 60 km trek or an easy arvie stroll.

The spruit is not the place where you should be getting to your technical bonifides. As above, check out thaba or one of my favorite little gems, rosemary hill. Irene also has a few pearler single track cornering sections.

This thread has inspired me go relocate some rocks and place them strategically in our singletrack. I don't want anyone complaining that Howick is not technical. :) All the bored Spruit riders are welcome to join us Nataliers on the weekends (seriously)

That and some people just aren't happy unless they're unhappy. Still trying to figure out how that mental deficiency is possible when riding bikes.
