Audiologist in Gauteng

I have been experiencing hearing difficulties for a while now.

I am having a hard time keeping up with conversations especially when there is background noise present.

When I stand close to something as subtle as a boiling kettle and I do not have eye contact with the other person, I cannot hear a thing.

...it is not "selective hearing"

I mentioned this to my Diabetic Specialist as I thought this may be a Diabetes related complication.

He sent me for tests but the tests were performed in a quiet room with earphones on.

The results were normal...... but I know my symptoms are not normal.

This is a source of great frustration.

Any help would be appreciated.

Could be as simple as swimmers ear and blocked with wax

Go see a doc and have them rinsed out

Have you considered seeing an ENT specialist?

I did see my ENT. Ended up getting a "Nose Job" but my hearing did not improve.

(Cleaned up Sinuses and enlarged the ports - my 4th Op since assault / bike jacking in 2009. I sustained serious injuries when the 4 assailants hit me with a rock in the face)

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. That is really ***. I hope you get sorted soon.

I was just wondering if the person suggesting diabetes might have been on to something, as presbycusis (age-related hearing loss) is associated with DM. But a normal tympanogram kinda rules that one out I guess.

Hope you get some answers soon!

During a recent visit at the CDE (Houghton), I saw a poster highlighting the link between diabetes, hypothyroidism and hearing loss.

Thyroid tested ok. Audio screening ok

I do not have a constant ringing in my ears

Go to the JCIC (Johannesburg Choclair Institute Center) 011 4826141.

I ended up having an implant, hope you do not need one. But it has changed my life dramatically. If anyone knows ears its them.

Do it right .ENT first ,then audiologist .DM can certainly have an effect on the hearing nerve .The first loss will be the high frequency spectrum like you are experiencing .Could also just be fluid in behind the eardrum ?WAX ?
