Why the thing about 99er entry fee? In my mind it at least remained quite close to what it was last year. If I recall correctly it was something like 230?This coming from a guy who refused to pay (and not riding) the new Burger fees last year... and was expecting 99er to go the same way.

I see vissershok road will be closed

That will be great. It has always been a bit of a safety problem with too many brain dead exhausted riders and too narrow a road!

Yes, drove over Vissershok yesterday, will be closed from the Contermanskloof turnoff. Really glad they're doing this, there's no way a bunch + a passing car can fit onto that tiny road.

Just be watchful when you guys go down the other side of Vissershok (past Meerendal), the road has a couple of bad bumps end a semi-fixed pothole or two.

I have entered the 99er for the last 6 years, but sadly it's pricing for entries has become unacceptable. I am prepared to pay the R400 pp entry fee for an event like the Argus with road closures included, but not for the 99er I'm afraid :-( Paying nearly R700 for me and my son to enter the 99er is just too much. I'm sure many loyal supporters of this event must be feeling the same way.

My feelings exactly.

Seeing that everybody else will be doing the 99'er on the day, why don't you join me (us) for a cruise around the Peninsula?

Head over to the Group Rides, see thread about the CTCT / Argus training rides, all will be revealed there)

I feel your pain... Problem is that if you are a keen roadie in the WC we have about 4 road races other than the Argus in the first 6 months of the year (unlike mtb events which are like a dime a dozen each weekend).

So if you wanna race "often" you'll either have to suck it up or buy yourself a mtb.

Thanks, that was exactly what I was planning to do. I live in the south peninsula so I have the most scenic cycle training route in the world on my doorstep...and it's free;-)

I do enjoy the organized fun rides though because you get to practice with groups. I take part in most of the PPA fun rides, but the 99er has just become a bit pricy. Also, as challenging as the 99er is, I really don't enjoy the new route of recent years with Vissershok and that torturous last hill at the very end of the race.

We didnt say we cant. We are just making sure we are prepared. The fact that I entered should speak for itself.

Oi, the 25 year old 8 speed I'm riding atm is going to really hurt on Vissershok. All, please cross your fingers that the bloody post office get my parts here in time so I can get my usual ride running for Sunday.

Vissershok can be a nightmare if the southeaster is blowing down the hill. Long live compact cranks and 28 tooth cassettes.

thats the idea yes.  I currently run a 11-26 (on my 9 speed). I'm going to take out the 11 ring and add a 28 at the back.  So essentially a 12-28.  That will do the job.
