Running a on one summer season with a 140mm travel XFusion velvet fork and the bike is currently geared to a 1x9 with a top guide and taco.....took the bottom rollers off, but it might go back on again.

Wheels are respectable width dartmoor raiders on superstar components hubs.

A rather decent handling bike I must say.

No, but the thread is calling for Hardtail Steel Trail Monsters. A hardtail trail monster must have at least 140mm at the front to be considered a pukka Trail Monster.

Only those that have ridden a hardtail monster will know why that is...

Ok, Why?

I am about to build up a Ritchey 650B steel hardtail.

Why so much front travel?

Just waiting for the Subrosa \ Superstar wheelset to get built.    Its not steel but the 160mm travel should qualify

There's just something completely silly and yet so satisfying about piloting a hardtail with that much suspension out front. It's capable of taking so much more at the front and yet the rear is still trying to buck you harder than a prize stallion at the rodeo. It's completely non sensical and yet it makes you giggle more than a convent girl recounting her first experience.

I think I know what you mean..... With a bit of. Give from steel, I always want to push harder.

Also, a hard tail with a dropper post completely removes any form of sensible thought. No more bucking. Or at least way less bucking.

Yeah. And less post up your ass...

I always used to employ the manual dropper. Qr collar, slam that seat and just gun it. Or, rather, attempt to.
