Gender equality

I'm not one for getting involved in equality wrt gender in bike racing but when I see posts/stats like this it really is rather depressing!

Yes, that means 14 riders got paid €300 each, despite not even finishing on the lead lap. That’s a total of €4,200. The entire prize fund for women’s race is €7,400.
So an amount equal to 56% of the total women’s prize fund goes to men who couldn’t finish on the lead lap.

Helen Wyman is fed up with the massive gender disparity in race earnings, and she breaks it the **** down in this article. It’s stark, it’s depressing, and it really needs to change.

Another factor to consider is media coverage and sponsorship - if the mens' CX races garner more entries, media coverage, sponsorship money, etc. etc. it may be that the mens' races have larger prize purses to deal with.

I'm not saying it's right, though.

I dont think there is a right and a wrong here, like any sports the income is dictated by the sponsorships, advertising and viewership etc. I imagine this exact thing exists in ALL sports, maybe except for Netball. More money will always go the mens way where men are involved.

Its possible more needs to be done to get extra funding for the women, but if there is no interest, there will be no money. My view may not have all the angles though.

as said above and as i said on another post

its business nothing personal, more income more money to spend, if the mens races attract more money during advertising slots..........who is going to get the money???

tennis/golf/soccer/ unless its stripping men get paid more( i think)

business 101

money in money out,,,,bean counters dont even know about gender just ask oom

It should be Pro rata to the amount of entrants.

Example 100 riders = 100 k

80 riders male = 80 K

20 riders female = 20 K

then do the splits of 1st through to what ever place in what ever ratio they like

in a perfect world, but remember there are bills to pay and books to balance, if your cash cow is not happy(pro men) because the purse is less  then the sport suffers,

business is not fair, its not just sport

Maybe more women should attend and watch women playing?

Wimbledon final - same prize money.

Ladies Final - 55 mins (6-3 and 6-0)

Mens Final - 3 hours and 56 minutes and 5 sets later

Remember the German that had a couple of beers and a smoke then wiped the floor with the Williams sisters?

Ladies FA Cup Football here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzPYRFSUlCQ

Not quite the same as men.

I think a lot can be said for a certain mindset that says that women's races simply aren't as entertaining. Yes ladies races are on average slower than the men's but I think can be just as entertaining and should therefore receive the same viewership, sponsorship and prize money. Now if they were racing in bikinis things would be very different...just saying. The mindset needs to change...

I don't think some of you have watched a CX race... its pretty much the same excitement and people watching and streaming (as it isnt often broadcast everywhere) for both the men and woman.

The purse should be the same in CX.

If anything, base it on finishing times if the women ride the same route as the men. Finishing time should dictate % winnings, regardless of gender.

Ladies need to start riding with the men, as mentioned above bruised egos will follow and will separate true athletes from posers. I've been chicked plenty times and find a certain attractive quality about a woman that's able to kick my butt :P
