Stuff like this makes my blood boil

I abhor cruelty to animals in any form, dogs need mental as well as physical stimulation, especially intelligent animals like this, that we treat them so badly is beyond me.

I remember many years ago I cycled past a house where there was a dog chained to a post, it was a beautiful animal that in my mind was been abused. It had a wooden shelter and food and water but was left out in the blazing sun all day, you could make tea from the water in its bowl was so hot. Sometimes I would put a few dog chews in my pocket, cycle out and toss them over the fence to him. One day I found him chewing his wooden box in frustration, I called but he just continued chewing, I was distraught and called the SPCA, they promised to come out and remove the dog. They never did and the dog continued chewing his box.

A few days later when I was in a bad enough mood not to care after a tough day I got in my car and drove to the house, I went in and told the owner I wanted to buy the dog how much does he want. He said 1000 bucks, he took a chance and he knew it, but I was over the moon, he grabbed the money and I grabbed the dog, my brother took the dog and it lived a long happy life on his smallholding near the Vaal Dam running and jumping and doing everything dogs do.

I often cycled past there later to see if they had just gone and gotten another dog, but they never did.

We need to care, animals are Gods little gifts to us, it is our duty to look after and care for them.

lekka story - you are good people

you gave a low life animal neglecting scum R1000 as a reward for keeping a dog chained until someone with a soft heart tried and do something about it? Thats not how unacceptable behaviour gets stopped...

Just wondering what would you have done? He mentioned having contacted the SPCA and they never pitched ... perhaps he is not some wife beater vest wearing type that would go all ninja on the oke and take the dog?

Guys is anything happening on this? I will happily drive out and support anybody who wants to do something about this.

Screw the store owner, this kills me to see.

Unfortunately its all the poster could do at the end. He had already called the SPCA. Lets hear how you would have handled it.....?

So many phone calls to SPCA, who also has different stories every time I call them. From "I told him to go remove the dog"

To "we have an inspector onsite now"

My friend informed me that the dog is no longer tied up, but for how long? a day or a week and everything calms down and the security guard does what he wants to again.

My friend will keep and eye and let me know if it happens again.

Easy...do this...the security company has to be registered with PSIRA. Check if they are, also they need to be registered for dog handling..the guard also needs to be registered with PSIRA..you cannot just take a dog and place him, contact psira and they might take action. If the guard and the company is not registered they will be arrested..easy..

Hmm not that easy, tried calling the PSIRA, after a few calls got hold of someone and asked if this company is registered (the person could hardly understand nor speak English easily)

He asked me to spell the company name and I did, but not sure if he typed it correctly then said that the company is not on their records.

I asked him what can they do about it report it, and he said

"you can email, you can fax, you can call"

"well I am calling, so what do we do now?"

"eeeehh, you must call this number"

I then called that number, and most of the ones on the website with NO LUCK

Awesome! You found the story.

I'm going to try and get in contact with Cape Talk regarding the issue at Balmoral.

Their attention might escalate things so action can be taken.

Cape Talk is a very good option.  Keep us posted.  I usually listen to the John M show on my way home
