Ironman 70.3 Durban

The cycle course is not exactly the same.

TriRock: you went back towards Durbs for a bit, 180 deg at Argyle Road, then out to Ballito and an exact reverse back.

IM: You get onto the M4 (at the same spot) but head directly out to Ballito. On return, you do a 180 at Argyle same as TriRock but then head out towards Umhlanga for a second lap, 180 at Glenashley and back to Argyle, 180 again and follow the same route as TriRock back to Suncoast.

The reason for this (I am guessing) is to make the distance closer to 90km. TriRock is actually 86-87km.

Way more complicated, on the second (short lap) you will share the road with okes on the first lap.

It is a very flat course at only about 500m (I disagree with the 750m above).

They also have increased the number of competitors to 3000 on the website. If they get anywhere close to this, you will have the drafting world champs.

I also see that they have extended the normal entry fee deadline (R2500) to 31 May.

Interesting , I recorded 941 odd metres of elevation at Trirock Durban and 88.08 km. Having said that though I did it relatively fast so possibly my Tomtom was gerook ...(elevation part)

I know a lot of ppl that have entered Durban, 3000 may well be achieved. Durban is probably the perfect spot for any long and medium distance tri's. Would not surprise me to see a full IM there soonish.

Will be my first and know of quite a few first timers doing the 70.3 in Durban this year... So I for one hope it is flat(er) having only done sprint distance events so far !!

Having put some effort into training over the last few weeks, and the fact that they extended the entry deadline suddenly got tempted. But the likelihood of some serious bunches makes me waiver.

Run is a two lapper so little change of congestion.

It could be really good or just too crowded.

Enter or wait til TriRock? That is the burning question.

I am definitely in. Entered and paid, training started....

This will bring back good memories of Ohlsons (spelling) Durban Ultra's

from many years ago.

I think it will be an awesome event - c'mon do it.

I am keen to see exactly where they will start the swim. The course description "in the direction of uShaka Marine World." so may not be starting in front of UShaka?

Does anyone have the bike leg as a cycleops virtual training file? Would be great to give it a go (or parts thereof as three hours on the trainer would be dull), prior to the event.
