4 bike rack: opinions?

Downside of getting the entire family involved......seriously considering buying a 4 bike rack, and the EVO 4 tops the list. The Thule 3bike plus the 4th bike attachment is just too expensive.

Not really interested in the hanging type, rather want the platform type for ease of use, protection offered to the bikes, access to the boot, rear lights, etc.

My only real concern is the space allowed to fit 4 bikes next to each other, is it enough?

Opinions?

Remember with a Thule the formula for how many bikes it can carry is N-1, with N being the number of bikes Thule claims it can carry. I have a Thule Clip-on 3. I love it, and wouldn't want any other rack right now, but no matter how hard I try, I simply cannot fit 3 adult MTBs on the rack - two is the max.

If four bikes is what you will be carrying most often, why not consider a trailer with a rack on top. Friends of ours have one, it is easy to load, bikes are safe and sturdy, and you have loads of packing space for camping gear.

I had a trailer with a 4 bike rack. I hated it. It was always wobbling and a pain to find parking at most events. I eventually sucked it up and bought the thule.

Yes its expensive.

But considering the value of the bikes it carries....worth every penny.

you can, if you loosen the handlebars (stem) and turn them sideways, ie parallel to the frame

I have a 4 bike buzz rack - takes a bit of thinking and wriggling, but you can get 4 bikes on reasonably easily if you are a packing genius... and with a lot of thinking and wriggling if you are not....

In fact...i had this conversation some time back with Grebel. He eventually bought the thule. Says its the second best cycling purchase he has done. After the bike of course.

Wayne is right. You get what you pay for. It seemed expensive at the time. There are a few things that I have purchased and never regretted spending the money. My Thule is one of them.

I have the three bike platform and I have had three bikes on no problem. For the price of the 4 bike option, you can buy the 3 bike, a pro ride and have change left over for a dropper post ;)

Bought a thule 3 bike with the extended 4th. It is a bit over priced imo, but consider the value of for bikes. For me it came down to, I want my babies safe. Just think how you are going to feel when you go for a lesser product and you lose 4 bikes?????

I have a Thule 3 bike carrier and my other half has a Buzz rack 4 bike carrier. The Buzz rack is a LOT easier for putting the bikes on and getting them to fit. The Thule is easier to get on and off the towbar, but getting 3 bikes on is like trying to do a puzzle.
