T-Bob Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 Again, goes to prove if you want to win a Classic this year you just need to ride with some Etiixx boys and you're set for the top step. Well, cobbled classics are pretty much over and it was a good tonk this year. I thought Roubaix was a very low key affair with very little aggression to make things happen. Of course it was tough, it always is but it makes you appreciate how much recent editions have owed to Boonan and Sparticus in recent years. Now the Ardennes are looming and I know I should, but I just can't get excited for them as the races just gone. For sure I"ll be trying to ignore everyone in the house when they are on and checking the phone like a 14yr school girl at various braais to see what's happening but it's just not... well... you know.
Gen Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Now he does everything better than Sagan naha.. he isn't doing it "hands-free"
Monark Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I am not a roadie but found myself glued to the TV yesterday... the cobbles made the race that much tougher and technically demanding. I was riveted. I am amazed by how aggressive the riders are and how they take such immense risks just to stay in a bunch (hopping pavements etc). The commentator seems to have a love affair with Wiggans though. Sheesh. Its great to see a Giant bike on the top step of the podium as well. I find people often speaking down to me about my bike and its slowly dawning on people that they make great affordable and reliable machines. Now imagine a long distance CX type race... wow...
Warren_G Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Crazy! Is it really worth the risk?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nA-84SIFnSo
SwissVan Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 If you watching a broadcast from BRITISH Eurosport don't be surprised that the commentators talk about Wiggins and Sky....German Eurosport and they punting the German riders, watch Swiss TV and they talking about Kung, Elmiger and Rast and the Eytalians are shouting about the spaghetti munchers while the Dutchmen are talking about Boom and his tjoms.
'Dale Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Focusing on the TRACK at the Olympics.. so I can choose not to watch that. As for his team.. he will be in the team car.No love lost there hey, Gen ❤️
nochain Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Really enjoyed the racing so far this year!!Some crazy conditions here and there and some very good racing with some new guys showing their potential.Love the way Kristoff and Degenkolb as "sprinters" won in Flanders and Roubaix...not the normal wait and see approach. On Wiggens, also not a big fan but I would love to see a list of stuff this guy has won. Not even podiums just races that he has won.He must be the most diverse rider of the last 10 to 15 years...Track, TT, Stage races and I am sure some good results in the oneday stuff in there as well.(we should be able to add the hour record in here also pretty soon)On pure results he must go down as one of the best?
Gen Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 No love lost there hey, Gen ❤️Nope lol I respect what he has achieved, buy I don't need to like him lol.
jimmycool Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 naha.. he isn't doing it "hands-free"Here you go Gen... http://share.gifyoutube.com/vMdAa5.gif
T-Bob Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 Ahhhhh if it wasn't enough that JD seems to be a nice guy he took out 'best father award' by taping his new born sons foot print to his bike. http://images.cyclingtips.com.au/content/uploads/2015/04/footprint.jpg

GrumpyOldGuy Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I wasn't that enthralled by PR this year, I expected a bit more seeing as there was no real favourite like in previous years. Frankly I thought the race suffered a bit without Boonen and Cancellera, their great single minded attacks and solo jaunts always provided great viewing. JD was a real surprise but worthy winner in my books, he did what he had to and rode a very clever race, really only showing himself with 20 odd kms to go. I think Wiggins was too heavily marked to really contest the win, after his break he knew no one would work with him and dragging competitors away who would make him work and jump him later was never going to happen, he is too old a hand for that. Unfortunate he couldn't get away but thats racing, he knows it, the peleton knows it, the managers know it and usually the fans know it too. Doesn't always work out the way we would like. All things considered I am sorry to see him leave the road scene, he is a super class act and highly respected in all corners of professional cycling.
GrumpyOldGuy Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Crazy! Is it really worth the risk?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nA-84SIFnSoYeah, the speed of the train means one foot slip, one missed pedal stroke, one hesitation and you are toast. Silly really because the race was neutralized anyway and the riders could catch up, but yeah, not worth the risk in my opinion.
'Dale Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 “Cycling is changing, definitely. A new generation is on the trigger. Of course I am actually still quite sad that Fabian [Cancellara] was not there in this race. It would have been really nice to have had also a battle against him.“I hope he is coming back and we can race each other. I really appreciate him as a rider. He is a really strong warrior but still I think there are a lot of young riders. We are also growing, we are getting experience and we are getting mentally stronger. “That is also what it is about in these kinds of races. You need to have the years. Nobody is coming in the first year and getting the victory. It took me five years.” JD
