Hi All

So after talking to Cycling SA this morning, they have confirmed that the CTCT Cape Town Cycle Tour is not Sanctioned and any member in possession of a UCI license (including a standard membership) will be facing a ban if you take part in the unsanctioned race.

They will not be allowed to ride the event, anyone with a UCI license will not be allowed to take part, they will be facing a ban if they do.

Not going to happen. How many riders have been banned before?

I'm not sure, i haven't heard of anyone but this might be the first time that they haven't sanctioned the CTCT

Then Cycling SA is going against their own press release on 27 January:

http://www.cyclingsa.com/news-and-press/2015/1/27/cycling-sa-event-sanctioning

Extract from that:

Cycling SA has the vision to promote social cohesion and participation equality. We, as the National Federation, will not penalise any of our members or licensed riders for participating in events not listed on our national calendar, or events unsanctioned by Cycling SA, as this would be counter-productive. However, it must be noted that no Cycling SA Commissaires will be authorised to officiate at unsanctioned events. We uphold the UCI’s suspension of the “forbidden race rule”, that allows licensed riders to participate in non-sanctioned events, and have a firm belief that any participant should be treated on an equitable basis.

There is more to this than the UCI not sanctioning the event.

It has to do with affiliation and licensing from my limited understanding.

CSA vs CTCT/Belliars

This is the best news ever!! If no elites ride there is a higher chance of us normal okes winning the Cycle Tour!

They can hit us with a ban that wont affect us, a realistic chance of dicing for the win is worth it!

Best. News. Ever

I'm sure that I read somewhere that they are not applying this rule. It was a UCI decision that was announced. Could have seen it in a CSA email.

ok some good / bad news

According to CTCT all PPA members with CSA Membership / UCI license may take part in the Cycle tour, your UCI / CSA seeding will not have an impact on your start time.

Now that was directly from CTCT, two different stories but when i ask CSA for their response they referred me to CTCT for verify.

So i'm afraid that the big boys will be allowed to race this one.

I'm going to get it from them in writing to be 100% certain.
