I assume / sincerely hope Fly2High missed a few things because if only R500K of an R8m income goes towards direct cycling related expenses....

I cannot say for sure as I have not looked at the financials - but unfortunately your statement of R500k of a R8m income goes directly towards cycling related expenses maybe correct!!

Remember about 3.5 million (not sure exactly how accurate this number is but was told recently 300K per month - when I left the EXCO it was R225k per month, it also may now be ZERO as the bought a property) goes to unit trust!!!

Did they supply funding for Maroesjka Matthee for any of her recent endeavours?

I know she did apply for funding.....

No.  It's not PPA function to provide funding for individual riders. That is CSA's function. Read CSA;s mission about high performance.

Hi Icycling

I know we often differ here on the Hub about PPA vs CSA issues, but I think it is important to tell you that I never doubt your integrity and your passion for cycling. Not many people, myself included, are willing to put in the time and effort that you have done. You have my respect and admiration for that. The fact that we differ on the particulars of how things should be done for the benefit of cycling, should never let you lose sight of the fact that we essentially want the same thing in the bigger scheme of things.

Hi All

So after talking to Cycling SA this morning, they have confirmed that the CTCT Cape Town Cycle Tour is not Sanctioned and any member in possession of a UCI license (including a standard membership) will be facing a ban if you take part in the unsanctioned race.

Not sure if it has been mentioned before, but it's only for Licensed riders, not general members

  Subscriptions received R3,586,292

Operating Expenses  R3,958,524

Loss on members contributions R372,232
Hardly ripping the ring out of members showing a loss on recurring member income.

Selective extraction of expenses to suit your argument highlighting your chosen line items.

Every staff member employed is directly involved in the promotion of cycling with the exception of the bookkeeper and possibly a receptionist who is involved in number distribution and registration. So salaries, by your reckoning, are not cycling expenses?

Oh, and legal fees were paid to protect PPA from CSA. An item that is the cause of this thread.

Of course it's a no win situation. Have poor financial management and you get lambasted, Have good financial management and you get lambasted.

Come to the AGM and ask the questions, hell even nominate yourselves to get on Exco and be a part of providing the solution. I am proud to be a part of PPA and I know we have good people who make a big contribution to cycling in South Africa.  As volunteers.

This debate is tedious. PPA has been well managed for a long period of time and as a result you feel it's ok to piss money against the wall now?

Let's get back on track to the thread of CSA applying the UCI sanctioned race rule to deprive South Africa of seeing riders like Mark Cavendish compete at the World Champs of Funrides.

I am sure a good portion will be for:

5. A office staff of how many people?

13 people. And 13 people on the Exco contributing their time for free.

Edit: format of numbers

I do not buy into the idea that a club / event organiser should be showing a profit.

hahahahahahahahahahahaha

So, Dirtopia, Stillwater Sports, HotChillee, Grandstand Management, ASG Events, ASO, RCS Sport, SARU, ICC, UCI, FA, FIFA.... must all organise events for love and charity?

Just how much money are the Wannabees sitting on at the moment? (Incidently, where do you think the money came from for the Southy Vines Bike Park? Here's a link, along with 45 other projects that got funding)

Nope, that is why I have Club /Event organiser.. PPA is a club / Event organiser, the others are event orgnisers and I do sincerely hope they show a profit.

From a Southey Vines view, no PPA funded money has as yet been spent there at all ... Currently Southey Vines has been funded by the Wannabees Cycling Club.  As far as I am aware, I will check, the PPA funding has not been paid into the WCC bank account . yet.

You make it so easy just to wash your hands of something you were part of creating!!! I am not saying Maroesjka Matthee is a perfect example of this!

This year I have OFFERED to donate 4 return air flight to Switzerland to the UCI school for U23 riders from the Western Cape who all started because of PPA and there Funride / league rides. One of them won the PPA league events from U16 to  Elite  - this cyclist is only 20 years of age now! Why is it left to an individual (I don’t have 20 million in the bank) versa an association who had a hand in creating these cyclist to OFFER further assistance?

Would you consider a parent who send their child to junior school and passes the grades with the best result in the class a good parent when they say sorry we will not fund your high schooling when they have adequate funds to do so? It a similar case - PPA created events which youngsters could ride in some of them became good but then PPA says sorry we will no longer support you! No follow thru by PPA - take some responsibility for that which you have create - don’t just say sorry thats CSA department now (you know they don’t have the funding). PPA has the ability to help these riders / members who have come through their structure and shown the ability to take them to the next level - why would you CHOOSE to leave these member "out in the cold?” It should not be a case of PPA  even been asked to help them - you should want to help them - PPA should OFFER there assistance. Make a budget for it if you have to - put it in project funding. Do you think any of your members will really get upset with PPA EXCO if you said to them we put aside say R100 000.00 to assist some of our members who came thru our funride system and excelled to the point they were asked to Represent South Africa?

PPA does not pay TAX but in a holistic manner view this as your TAX - these athlete like Maroesika Matthee (member of PPA) puts on her national colour representing South Africa yet SARS does not allocate any funds from National treasury towards CSA or their cyclist  - PPA can easily assist in filling this gap. At least when PPA use funds in this manner PPA knows exactly how it is been spent / not wasted on some corrupt officials! Possible just donate the air ticket as apposed to money! It’s for cycling and a good cause - without champions in the sport the sport will become nothing!

Last year when I went to world Champs even WPCA contributed R6000.00 towards my expenses (I have given it all back to cycling - as I did not need it). They gave R6000.00 to another 3 cyclist - total R24 000.00. Believe me WPCA the Western Cape affiliate to CSA/UCI do the best they can with the little resources they have. One of the Western Cape riders came back with 2 medals from world champs!

Funds have not been paid yet, so this means that WCC have funded Southey Vines Bike Park.

You're being selective in your memory. Again these issues were discussed on EXCO when development was being sponsored. It was always known that the hand over of a PPA developed rider to a CSA development rider would be dependant on sponsorships.

Where does that sponsorship money go....

I see lots of people riding the effing Epic who don't need sponsorship....

you need PPA to change their mandate, then propose that at the next AGM. We've sat in the same classroom, you're a smart guy, you can present your case in a better manner.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I just think you're barking up the wrong tree at the wrong cat. There's plenty of money out there for sponsoring riders, its just that the riders who actually need don't get a slice of it. That still doesn't make it PPA's responsibility. every parent has to let the kids know they're on their own at some point.

Fly2high, as a follow on to Velouria's question, how much money do the Wannabee's have in their bank account ?

Blind buck ... No Idea .. I am not part of the committee.

Given the new stricter view mods have adopted for forums, I am quite surprised this thread has not yet been heavily edited my Mods. Just saying..
