Play the numbers.

Is it really long term worth it to do the upgrades.

You can sell your bike and buy a decent 2nd bike for probably cheaper.

Here is another beautiful brand new set of Carbon clinchers at R9k

I would rather save up some more pennies and get these instead

Will be sure to turn some heads at the coffee shop

and the "big eye" shots on jetline action photo as you discover the brakes don't work so good on carbon rims will be priceless for all too see.

There is a spez sl carbon bike for R12 900. If that bike is your size then buy that bike and sell your and you mind have enough money to buy a used set carbon wheels.

Just rebuilt my Silverback Mercury with 2 x 10 XT group set, XT wheels, XT brakes, shifters and went tubeless. Big improvement overall, shifting is smoother, XT brakes with ice-tech nice quiet stopping and tubeless allows lower tyre pressure. T

I saw that, unfortunately a bit small. I need a 54/55. The way I look at it if I do the groupo and some wheels , and then later a frame of I do get over the current Ali frame then I will have a bike as good , if not better than a bike I can get for 15 -18 grand now , or am I being stupid?

I am looking at upgrading the groupset to a new 105 11 speed and buying some new mavic Kyserium elite s wheels.

1: many (if not most) of the replies points to getting a better wheelset first & I do agree with them.

My advice is to also explore other brands of wheelset. Mavic is a safe bet (in term of using 11 speed cassette) but alternative options are out there (american-classics as an example)

2: I've also recently upgraded to the current 105 groupset. the shifter and the brakes are the 2 main improvements comparing to the previous version of 105 & you'll feel a big difference if you're moving from the tiagra.

The other alternative option is to add another R3k (on top of your R12K) & get yourself a scott speedster 20 (2015 model which comes with the current 105 groupset & a much lighter aluminum frame)

Or the CAAD 8 105

That would be classic.
