And WE WILL WELCOME you here dudes! Looking forward to sharing the spirit that will be the lasting memory of this years ride. Years from now, when many other people have become cyclists and competed in this event, the question will be, "Did you ride the first year of the CTCT when the fires ravaged the mountain and the race still went on!"

Lets not forget that there's a strong possibility the fire could still be burning when we line up to do this ride! Wear something red if you have it, as a token of support to the firemen still working the mountain!

I will be in my red BMC kit on a yellow BMC SLX01.  6D.

Well it sound pretty good to me, leave the roadie at home and take the mountain goat. Take baggies, t shirt and firefighter helmet. And cruise the tour de suburbia. Now i dont have to hide my feelings up suikerbossie. But stop at all waterepoints and eat and drink what i have been missing the prev years

I'm as disappointed as one could be.

But the insane criticism spouted by some is unreal. Will you take personal responsibility if the decision was up to you? Bet not. It speaks of immaturity and selfishness.

I've done the Hot one, the Windy one, a few Detours,  now I'll do the Short one.

My only question, are there any easily accessible pubs between the University and the Blue Route.....

They should have just cancelled the ride all together. If they are still battling to control the fire, perhaps that is what should be the focus. I can't see how they can guarantee the safety of that many riders over such a short distance. Not to mention that all the manpower needed to provide safety for cyclists would be better off fighting the fire. It is going to be chaos in a Cape Town this weekend.

Personally, with comments like you have been making here, I think you are way too opinionated to be a moderator on this site.

Two things:

1. Are you saying moderators are not allowed to have an opinion ?

2. My opinion comes from a place of disapointment because I expected more.

In the face of this disaster I expected a world class organisation to do so much more. I expected a world design capital to make a plan. I expected more to come from this adversity. As my wife said to me when she read my comments I sound like a politician - but I expected more, much more. Maybe, my expectations were to high. So be it.

And if you feel my opinion is not a good one, then bring forth arguments on why I should not have such high expectations ?

I agree totally with Tubehunter and other sentiments, make the most on the day, and if you have been on the hub for a few years you will know I will make the most of the day. But that does not change my view that I expected better.

My prediction is that the spectators will supply all you could possibly drink.

If you have done them all, bring your own pub ! But only if you tell me which group you are in !

Where is it ok to ride in Cape Town and surrounds?! I've paid for plane tickets - car hire - hotel accommodation - bike transportation. I'm gonna make it worthwhile come flames, ash, damaged roads, smoke inhalation .... Bla bla bla

Go visit Jonkershoek!

This is ridiculous, have you worked out the entry per km, surely a shorter route = no where near what we paid!  If we have complained in the past how entry fees have got out of hand, this may be "unavoidable" but really 47km at the entry we paid!

Why don't they just move it. Imagine this route. Start Stellenbosch (Coetzenburg) go towards Somerset West then take N2 over Sir Lowrys pass to Grabouw. From Grabouw go towards Villiersdorp over that small pass cross the dam and turn left towards Franschoek over the Franchoek pass . From Franchoek go over Helshoogte pass towards Stellenbosch back to Coetzenburg. Will be roughly 100km and over 4 passes. They can call it the Cape Town 4 passes cycle tour. Not much trafic on these roads except for the 18km stretch on the N2. Certainly less traffic than M3 and around Cape Town so it should be easy to close. Should be the permanent "alternative route"
