My last ride was fire hut. Will miss that trail!

I have to say, fire hut was my favorite piece of trail from our trip down to the Cape over December. Canaries was also super. I remember getting to the bottom of fire hut and telling Nico that we sould ride up and do it again, but we were pressed for time so we headed home. In hindsight...

Update:

Me and another manager was on look-out on the nekkie between lourensford and stellenbosch between 10 and 12 tonight. The fire was burning more towards stellenboch but with the wind that turned it is burning on the ridge of the mountain on the lourensford side again this morning. Don't think it is out of control, but the fear is that there comes a gust of wind and blows the fire down into lourensford. Hope all of the other places it was burning yesterday is under-control.

On the helderberg side - things are looking good. Much contained.

The wind switching a bit last night helped alot.

Cannot comment on the stellies side.

The fire is now on the slopes above Eden Forest (Kabouterbos). The VWS have how-ever run out of money to keep the helicopters up and need money for diesel and aviation fuel.

I feel for you guys and girls who have suffered the loss of your trails at Jonkers and Tokai last week. I regret not having ridden these trails, and now the likelihood of that happening seems very remote. I am a TBMTB member and have not really seen the necessity of venturing away from my local haunt. The lesson learned is to go out and ride more trails, as you never know what tomorrow holds in store...

I rode through there this morning - G-spot, Eden Forest & everything inbetween are unscathed.

Pretty much. Also have to wait for the root structures to stop burning. That could take a While. Also they need to see if they ARE going to replant again. Not that clear cut.

Lots of "if's and but's". In the meantime we need to give our full support to Cape Pine and Cape Nature as they suffered huge losses, and without their cooperation and support we would not have been able to build and ride those trails in the first place.

I spoke to soon.

Choppers are up and flying, can hear them, but not see them from the Somerset West side.

What a day for the boss to dump all this work on me :(

I skipped the shortened Argus and joined friends at Jonkers instead.  We rode the whole of fire hut, top canaries and then down neverending.  Feel extremely lucky that my last memory of the trails is a fantastic one (besides going OTB and breaking me and my bike a little).

Just so sad.  There are other awesome trails, but Jonkers was just special.

Hoping that when they can build again everyone will get together to help raise the funds for building.  I'll be one of the first to donate what I can.

Something I wish a lot more people realised.

Just last Thursday, there were ALREADY questions around when the next Tokai build day was going to be. I had to do a double take most times. Really!?

Man, feeling very depressed at the moment. Going to miss Jonkers (Fire Hut was also my favorite - although there was still a lot more exploring I wanted to do). I'm really holding thumbs that g-spot makes it.
