Was good meeting you before the race. I'm glad you didn't catch me this year

Nice meeting you too!

We really tried.  3min faster over the first 40km of the route.

But the VA's did an awesome ride.

I was a bit slow on the day.  Must have been a bad beer the day before......

Did anybody use the Racetec App to track riders? I think it's a brilliant idea just now they need a few more timing mats throughout the course...

It really came in handy for our support team so they knew when to expect us to cross the line instead of waiting out there all day!

Did a little over 5hrs, nice easy ride looking after a first timer, HR averaged a gentle 67% and generally just a fun day out. Love this event, usually use it to raise funds for a worthy cause.

Well organised as usual, however, having been seeded to start at 06h50 and dropping back to 09h00 for my mate, I can safely say I'll not drop back again, I cannot ride in those temperatures. Hats off to all those who made it through the wind and the heat.

No way. They have an app that does this. That is super cool.

Who else saw that idiot in the white Prado going against the traffic in the residential suburbs? It was close before we turned into Douglas road to go over the N1.

This was my first 94.7 on my mountain bike.

Enjoyed the whole vibe. The ride was really tough but to be honest was not sure what to expect. Very proud to finish around the 4:30 mark.

Unfortunately after 20 km my front derail-er cable snapped and we had to remove the derail-er. Managed to finish with only a few gears to select. After 50 km caused an accident, stopped and sincerely apologies-ed to the woman. I really felt bad. After As I passed her, I moved the to left but my back wheel made contact with her front wheel.

Since then I was a bit more cautious.

Will most definitely do it next year. Hopefully will start more early then 9:58

Who remembers this?

"Mister give me Choc-colate and water bottle!"

I won't lie, after cramping up from Douglas rd and fighting with all of me to push through the pain up that lion park hill, I found those kids to be super annoying. On any other day I would have felt bad for the poor guys who really have nothing. But when you are in a dark place and being begged by hundreds of them for Choc-o-late , it kinda ruined that but of the ride for me.

Stupid question...

Why take the route through Steyn city?  I understand it is possibly a "sponsorship deal - if you want Riversands you need to use Steyn city".  But to me that part of the route is just plain dangerous and should be avoided.  Surely they can re-route not to go through Steyn city?

Or is it simply to allow an opportunity for king Steyn to watch over his village and see all the cyclist enjoying his creation?

Great event and route, but that Steyn City and its speed bumps is very dangerous and should be removed.

As far as I am aware, there is no connection between Steyn City and Riversands other than that they are neighbours.

Can they avoid Steyn City without completely changing the route? There are not many options. You could go along the N14, and back to the finish via R511/William Nicol, but that would mean no car access to the venue from the North. They could also go though Dainfern but that would mean closing of R511/William Nicol to the south of the venue. So given the venue, this is probably the best option.

I like the climb through Steyn City (despite suffering up there last year.) It's very scenic IMHO.

Regarding the speed humps, I think part of the problem is the surface. I think if it was tar rather than pave stones, less people would have issues. The pave stones can be a bit unpredictable. Maybe covering them with a rubber mat might help. (This may allow them to be better marked presuming that Steyn City won't mark them permanently.)

P.S. No such thing as a stupid question.

Nicely done, lekker to catch up briefly.

Started 8:43, finished 16:35. I'm a well-done steak today.

And with helicopters landing it was  a dust bowl by 1 pm. No place to sit and have a beer and a BS with mates.

Then there is the ride home :-).

A little known secret is the Farmers Market on the venue near the MTB start (already I am worried that by doing this I've blown the secret).

A bunch of us when there after finishing to ice cold, waiter served, in real glass craft beers. It's under the trees with little dust and only a few people.

Am I reading this right? Out of 33 000 starters only the odd 21000 riders finished?

Looks like it. 21 654. Would love to hear the story behind "Vanessa Mouton" - 9h30! yoh!

I hear how great it was organised etc... But

Same route as last year same price, no goodie bags, no bananas or any food along the route, no cold wet cloths at the end, little to no shade at the end.

I still enjoyed it and did my best time ever but really muffled at what was on provided for the price, especially since it was a sponsor event.

I mean I don't want expensive stuff but for the newbies it's nice to get say a small baby bum cream for the bin, some sun block, maybe a cheap buff or a gel or such.
