I wonder if bolt-on speed bumps would work? Bolted on for the year and removed for the race?

How about if the current route was reversed? I suppose you wouldn't want the finish to run down Pooks Hill for a fast left hand turn?

That is actually a good idea. Comrades does it. Jan smuts uphill......

We got to the 20-to-go point (top of Witkoppen) in 2:12, which was 5 minutes faster than the time I confirmed for the I-team, so I knew the 4 guys in our group that hadn't broken the sub-3 mark would be doing so today IF they could hang in there. By the time we got to Steyn City, the group had broken up and it was each man for himself. Two went ahead with the strongest of our team, while I waited for one and the other was out of sight. 2:48 - 2:55 was the time split between fastest and slowest in our group, and everyone was happy.

I saw 2 Germiston Wheeler riders come past me on the foot of the Steyn City climb like I was going backwards, (with yellow cable ties on their helmets). The one chap had quite a heavily tattooed (left?) arm.

Seriously motoring. Or I was just k@k slow at that point... :P

We have just had (like I guess most of Jhb), a mother of a storm with hail.

Can you imagine if this happened yesterday with so many still on the route.

Not to forget the possibilty of muddy conditions at the parking

GaryvdM - nice to meet you. You caught me by surprise as I still had a lot on my mind (second lap, change shirts, eat, drink, refill bottles, etc.).

Very nice to meet you Sir. Sorry to surprise you. I was also not all there mentally, when I was asking about the group, I had it in my mind you had ridden with the "I" team, and only realised afterwards that you had not.  Thankfully you had ridden with a group so it was not to awkward.  :whistling:

I also got to meet ScottC-M, Carpet, and Wyatt Earp at the start. Always cool to meet other hubbers.

Yesterday was my first road race and I had only trained up to a distance of about 72km but not much hills!

I was in group QQ and it was very congested especially when we hit hills, this didn't help with trying to get up the hills a bit quicker (same pain more gain!). The heat was also nauseating!

The last 20km left me quite raw, trying to do the "mind over body" mantra's to get through! That bike sign at towards the end also made me chuckle....clever marketing I would say.....when the mind says hell yeah, you can have this bike!! If only that company could get some signed up on the spot for that deal... because when you hit the finish you can only feel proud of overcoming the challenge and any thoughts of giving up the saddle disappear!!!

From early this morning I was already looking for more road races! My aim...get seeded earlier and then kill those hills!

Was a good experience and will only get better at it!

There were a few others ahead of those two who were a bit quicker up the climb.

The tattoo'd guy is Peter Parker on this forum - we call him Spidey.

It was my 3rd 947. Previous 2 was on MTB. So decided to do it on my "roadbike" this year. Wife was not too happy with that with heatwave issues...

I was seeded in X, dropped back to Z to ride with my mate, his first race outing on his "roadbike" (I did the Argus this year)

We hung back in Z to get rolling start fot first uphill... until AA came past us... Pookes Hill on cold legs sucks on our bikes...

Highways, mid-city was awesome, that's why I do this thing, to ride there on my bike.

Wind SUCKED...on our bikes we bargain on some easy flats and downhills to rest, sucks to have to pedal on flats not to be blown to standstill.

Both of us started cramping at 70km, really suffered last 12 km... walked most hills...

Finished 5:25. Like previous years: ABSOLUTE AWESOME EXPERIENCE!!!

HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL INVOLVED.

We'll be back. (Not on our "roadbikes"though... been there, got the medal...

Speaking of which, I have never worn any medal. The one I got yesterday, I only took off in the shower 6 hrs later...

O yeah, our "roadbikes"

I hope Racetec sorts out my results. I was supposed to start in group Q, but decided to ride with my son doing his first 947 race. started in KK at 09:38. According to them I took 15 hours, 32 minutes and 17 seconds to go from the Pre Finish timing mat to the actual timing mat on the finish! Here is what I see on the Racetec app, but nothing to be found on the website. There also is a photo of me and my son finishing together.

Been a long time MTB'er also, and this year decided to do the 94.7. Initially it was a bucket list thing just to tick it off. Turned out I loved it. I will be back year after year for this event. Also did the MTB challenge last week - and that sucked. Boring route and too hot.

I was going to ride it on my 29er with slicks but changed my mind 1.5 months back and purchased a second hand road bike. Took it to cradle to test my limits and did my first 101km. I felt confident for the 94.7.

I paced myself and got to the end with relative ease. Goal was 4 hours and came in at 03H56, so was chuffed. Next year I am aiming at 03H00.

To my surprise, I got home to find my wife had been tracking me on garmin livetrack and reporting my progress to friends and family on FB, WhatsApp, etc... That really made me chuffed. I had no idea, and was really over the moon that she took such an interest in my first roadie event.

Met some nice peeps along the way too. Really great people all over. Such a fantastic day.

This year I did my 19th one and it was by far my worst It all started going haywire at the start going up the first hill I bent the rear derailer hanger when I stood up and was lucky that the rear derailer didnt went into the back wheel . changing gears was very frustrating with the slipping of gears and the chain falling off, with in the first 10 km's I had to stop 3 times already . Luckily I saw the bike machanic  station at the first waterpiont and was helped there to bend the hanger back to its normal position .But Ive lost already 15 min in the race so I decided to take it easy and try to enjoy it witch I actually did until Malibongwe when we hit the full force of the wind  .Going up the long hill to the Lionpark I saw one or two riders falling off their bikes because of the wind. I eventually finished in 4:22 a whole 30 min slower than my previous slowest time . Next year hopefully I will be back and train a little bit more for a PB on no 20
