How tuff was the 50km mtb and how were the legs for the 109km road the sunday?

Prepare well, is my 2 cents worth of advice. :)

I was going to do a relaxed MTB on Sat and race Sunday, but on the first climb the bug bit and  I hammered it and came in top 20. I don't have suspension on the 26er so was a tad shaken, but a nice lunch and bit of relaxing around the estate and I was ready for the 109KM.

I was with the leaders up the first climb till the chain snapped at top of climb, then rode at the front of next group without big ring the whole ride. Legs felt it after 95km, but I would not give up the 50km!

Depends how often you MTB, okes like Donovan will smash the 80km and then be ready to smash the 109km the next day.

The MTB is really worth it if going up for the weekend!

Nothing like Karoo 2 coast then??

Sounds good and I will just cruise the 50km mtb and race the 109km road race then

Stop complaining.

Just get out and ride!

I wasn't complaining i was answering a question, for me to be able to answer i had to be riding in all of those conditions, which means i was riding right, No?

I must have been very fortunate ...

Had great weather every time I've been down and I doubt whether they were all leap years. LOL

Oh crap ... I've probably just jinxed it for this year.

One should also be concerned about the weather leading up to July ... getting in the training can be a mission.

I think many have been left considering alternative challenges after mini-Argus.

Lekker which years were you down there? As the saying goes "you dont get crap weather....only crap clothes" or something along those lines. Me, I am a cold hoender, i hate getting cold, I have no form of insulation on my body. Our last Knysna trip was so cold for me, I went to PnP & bought a heater for my bedroom.

The 50km MTB is easy, there is one big climb at the start at that is it really. The problem with the road race the next day is the big climb right after the start. Racing the day before means your legs just aren't as fresh as they should be up that first climb.

luckily the road counts for nothing i.e. seeding, so you can go balls to the wall in the MTB leg

Seems like a lifetime ago ... it was still a seeding event when I last went. LOL

Definitely cold, even if the sun is shining.

But luckily no rain when I went.

Which way does the road route go nowadays.?

Plett or Wilderness.?

Does it count for nothing or is it just not an official seeding event like the mtb race. Usually any race timed by racetec could count towards your Argus seeding, just not more than a 1/3rd (official race can count 100% of your Argus seeding)

Correct.

It can count up to 34% for your CTCT seeding.

This race is a difficult race with about 1500 meter of climbing.

In 2014 the winning time were 2:53.39

For seeding purposes they adjusted the winner’s time to 2:52.27 with a beta of 1.18

aaah you right that's what i meant   its not a seeded event but will count towards your overall seeding, which in recent times actually does count.
