I only run 2 times a week,3 times max. I get injuries (knees, shin splints etc) if I run consecutive days. Most runs are 6km. A long in my book is 8 or 9. Intervals work well, I managed a 9 km in sub 40 the other day on a treadmill, so don't know why all the training programmes advocate huge distance.

That's your problem right there, that sort of distance twice a week no wonder you hurt .

Stap moemfie. Stap.

Come do a parkrun with me saturday at ebotse.

If you battle...my dog will pull you along

He loves it...you just sort of lie down on your face and let him drag you.

I can only run at one pace... SLOW!

I did however get a second pair of running shoes last week.

And i can tell you that road shoes are much faster than trail shoes for normal day to day running.

I wouldn't call it slow, getting to 5:45 is not slouchy stuff.

That is some of the best advice going, start with parkrun. I hated running until I did a few parkruns. On sat Im going 50 so it seems parkrun is going to be part of my weekend for a long time still.

I check that park run at modders yikes it looks wildly congested

Modders is pretty bad. I know they are getting some new parking organised for it and looking to get another event going to try break it up a bit.

A good friend of mine is the race directory for the modders parkrun.

Seriously though, parkrun is a good way to start. I can tell you for 100% sure that you will not be the slowest person even if you have never run before and its a really good bunch of people.
