Amashova 2015

Full road closure is limited to a few events, and both Tour Durban and Amashova deserve recognition for getting it right.

The Durban municipality really is trying hard to make an effort when it comes to encouraging people to get active in the outdoors. Look at how many millions they pumped into the beach front to make it into a Miami style water front. The best part for me in December was when my dad (54), Sons (8 & 5) and myself rode on  the beach front and came across an old gentleman (70ish) on Rollerblades. I loved seeing the diversity of the people and everyone was so friendly.

The municipality has closed the roads to all the major events , Amashova, Tour Durban, Engen Series, Tri Roack , Iron Man 70.3 and those are just the ones that involve bicycles.

Going to do Comrades this year - profile looks almost the same  .  So gonna try and make it down for this race as well.  Comrades should be good prep for this

Ja, basically the same road the whole way (you'll just be doing it in reverse for Comrades) except for your arrival into PMB which is different to the road we take out of PMB for Amashova.

OK I don't use Strava, just my Garmin. So Strava and Garmin Connect don't agree on how long that segment is. Strava recognises that whole section, even though the first couple of kays are hardly climbing at all (in fact lots of flat stuff).

"Hardly climbing" is a fair statement until you have to sit a wheel at +40kph. [emoji1]

I see the event website has it as 18 October but on the UCI calendar it is the 12th.

What is the "marker" to be eligible for qualifying into the UCI Amateur World Champs. Some has it as a top 25% finish in Age Group will get you a spot?

If that were the case then the top 275 people finishing the 2014 Amashova in the mens 40 - 44 age category would have qualified.

Seems very high to me.

I think that date (Oct-12) was the event from last year, qualifying the for World Champs this year.

Aah thanks. Makes sense. This year' event should get you a spot for WC next year. Considering WC's is in September this year (Copenhagen)

Went to check it......Not sure if it's different for Duran. But I believe Durbs to draw the biggest field.

In addition, riders who participate in 3 qualifier events during the season will also get their ticket to the World Championships. They don't have to finish in the 25% first in their age category. The UWCT Corporation will keep records of the 50% first athletes of each age group to make a recall, in order to allocate the slots for the Worlds that were not taken by the first 25%. This recall is made in July.

Looks about right.  The qualifiers are listed on http://www.uciworldcyclingtour.com/.  For last years tour only about 3 or 4 qualified in the 60-64 group.  This year there are 60+!  They say it is the biggest qualifying event they have ever had.

Interesting, perhaps I'll do next years event depending on where in the world it is based.

Its been a while since I have done this race but planning to do it this year again. Enjoy the race very much. I have done it 3 times and cramped at exactly the same place :-)

Next year's finals will be in Perth. Pity as I would've preferred a trip to Europe if I decided to go.
