Shebeen Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 So with all the 'Epic is out of touch with the average man' speak, how about this concept? Crowd fund an entry. 300 tickets at R200 each. Once all 300 are sold, a winner gets picked and the other 299 go home empty handed. An actual Lottery, where winning the lottery means you actual win. There could be hybrid options. where say 10 winners are picked, and then that gets whittled down to 3 finalists, which then get voted on online. Uh mean anyone can win the World Series of poker, You just have to stump up the buy in and go from there.
Long Wheel Base Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Definitely. I CAN NOT afford the R60k price tag. And its not just the entry, Its all the extra training and kit and logistics required to do the event. If I could "waste" just 200 bucks on the entry I would make a plan for the rest.
Meezo Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I'll pay R220, if i can get a CO2 bomb too That way i don't go home completely empty handed!
Dubber Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 you got to be in it to win it! I'd go for it - certainly the only chance I would have of getting an entry. I don't think you would be able to market it as a 'lottery' - against the gambling laws. It would have to be a fund raiser of sorts. And don't limit it to 300 entries. Let it run for 6 months and then however many tickets you've sold divided by the entry costs, that's how many you 'give away' Assuming you get the Epic entries in the first place...
Steven Knoetze (sk27) Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 The winner then gets entered into the Lotery itself and what if he isn't picked???Or is this for a confirmed entry?
Shebeen Posted March 23, 2015 Author Posted March 23, 2015 The winner then gets entered into the Lotery itself and what if he isn't picked???Or is this for a confirmed entry? You'd obviously need to find a way to get a confirmed entry upfront. Could either be done before early bird or just get the entry, stump up the cash and take it from there. it's just an idea, the mechanics of which would require some smoothing out. (happy for someone else to take it on if they want to)
dirtypot Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Sounds like a cool idea. I'm sure you could get the organizers to go for it too - the 'lottery' entrant could potentially get a fair bit of exposure. Could even get additional sponsorship for it - depends on who's marketing it and how hard they're pushing. If the organizers are on board and can give a guaranteed entry then you're sorted! Now, can someone sponsor this poor boy (me) R200 for an entry?

DJuice Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Bought tickets last year at R500 for entry with bike, Trek Superfly FS. Not enough tickets sold, friends took up the entry but had to pay full price, out of my league!
Cassie Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Just make it legit....i.e.e prove you can get the entry (upfront) I've heard thsi spoof where soemthing similar happened to a sheep raffle...1000 tickets sold...and the the "winner" announced...totally bogus... the 10 people that complained got their money back and the rest was money for jam!! So, like I say - make it legit...and i will also buy a ticket....
