How is asking how they will do equal to criticizing them? There is a difference!

We don't need to jump on our high horse at every opportunity.

Who the potential winners of a race and how they faired in previous races is a valid debatable point! If people can't see that then they need to wake up. Not every bloody thing posted on the hub is an attack on something else!!

And in any event, criticism along with praise is part and parcel of a pro athletes career.

How was I attacking?  I'm really surprised that you can say that (them having sponsors...)

Let's all calm down.  :)

Exactly...its like someone saying "Do you think the Cheetahs will beat the Sharks" for example. Other person says "no, don't think they good enough at the moment"

Questions and opinions, not criticism....

I always laugh at the rugby experts which have all kinds of knowledge because the played a bit in high school and watch every game on TV. They are professionals, with professional people helping them, do you really think you can think of a solution/play/training program better that the people who have PhD's and years of experience. If your advice was any good then you would not be sitting here drinking a nice cold beer. BUT by saying this I am not saying you should just accept everything because the "know hows' said so, but just remember, they can back the things they say/do with actual knowledge and experience, with what can you back your brilliant advice?

No way. So you're discounting guys like Beukes, Buys, Bell, Kleinhans and all of the young guns, such as Rourke and Croeser?

We have a hell of a lot of local talent.

Yes we do, every country has a lot of local talent. The problem is, none of the local talent is exceptional. The honest truth is that we need someone to take on the Christoph Sausers and the Jaroslav Kulhavy's and the Nino Schurters of this world like we had with Burry.

That's right.

It appears we don't get taught these things in the South African culture.

That is why we gave the unfriendly internal racing going on all the time, Vets dope for prestige and friendships fall apart because "a buddy beat me"

So that's why you naar wiff me ???? sorrie man!

I never said you were attacking and I never passed comment about their sponsors, that was somebody else.

Am calm, but would really like to stay on topic.

Coolio, moving on.

In terms of Knox / Bell, I think they can take it considering most of the local talent will be at the UCI XO World Cup events.  Not sure about Johan Rabie etc though?

Knox/Bell? You mean Knox/Evans?

The comment may seem a bit harsh, but I was honestly disappointed that very few African riders could keep up with the international field at this year's Epic (Scott Factory Racing excluded).

The African riders who did well were all XCO riders, who have different training regimes than those who focus solely on XCM. Maybe that is what made the difference. You guys have the experience and equipment to compete with the best, but just couldn't keep up. Clearly, the front runners are doing something different and I think it may be a more effective training regime.

why would it be harsh??  is it harsh if i judge your results?? we are in the same boat.. i ride for fun, I'm an unpaid cyclists that enjoys racing my bike. at the end of the month no money comes into my account from racing. ( exactly the same as you.) I'm blessed with parents that suppport me and my expenses every month. So why should i have pressure to be competitive. i race as hard as i want. naturally im competitive and try to do my best. you seems to have this misconseption that all us guys that ride fast are earning furtunes in money and have to answer for bad results. I earn zero salary from racing i do it for the love of riding. if i win I'm happy if i come last I'm happy and i have no one to answer for it. so why belittle my result at epic. Some european teams run on budgets in excess of hundreds of euros yet you seem to think we should beat them. bottom line i love riding if i come first or last so what.. i do it for me..

I think most of us don't have a clue what the reality of pro rider's financial situation is in SA.. There is a reason why so many have bike shops.. it's to actually pay their way on the racing circuit.

But good luck Max and Kevin for sani, your last journey together as team mates?
