Fitting ESI Grips

I first tried fitting these by lining them with soap to help get them onto the handlebars but then discovered that when out riding, after a while they started to move.

What's the best way of fitting these and to make sure they do not move?

thnx

Try using windowlene

Arg but it's hit and miss with those things.. sometimes they slip on easy and some days you need to have a coffee break to regroup and think up a new strategy.

Someone mentioned I try using hairspray..   haven't tried that yet.

Hairspray is the best for this, I kid you not. Fitted mine two years ago and haven't moved at all.

Take grips off, get rid of any soap residue, spray insides of grips with hairspray and put back on. leave it overnight and voila!!

I've used diluted sunlight before that worked 100%, slides on "easy" and stays put after its dried out (takes about 15mins in the sun)

But when they get wet they slide off again

Window cleaner. Have to be quick. Evaporates within a few minutes and you won't ever be able to move it.

Compressed air!

Clean bar of any grease/oil. Fit first 3cm of grip onto bar. Fit end of air nozzle under edge of grip between grip and bar. Push trigger - grips slides on easy peasy.

Get them off the same way.

5 second job and they grip like poo to a woolen blanket.

I tried Windowlene and couldn't get them on at all. Then made the mistake of using Sunlight Liquid. Went one very very easily, but they start to slip when you ride for a bit. So I took them off, cleaned them properly and then plugged one end and filled the grips with surgical spirits. Then poured some spirits over the bar so it's nice and soaked and managed to get the grips on after that. Still struggled a bit, but now they don't move at all.

Rubbing alcohol. Window cleaner is probably based on the stuff.

Clean your bars properly with it and then do the grips.

Plug one end with finger. Pour in a bit and close other end with any of remaining nine fingers. Shake properly. Open up fingers over basin and quickly slide on bars. Dries out quickly. Mine haven't moved since.

Some believe alcohol fixes all problems, but in this case I agree.

In an ideal world where everybody owns a compressor.... I suppose they could always use their 2lt tubeless bottle bombs..... :whistling:

1st prize, compressed air. 2nd prize, a tin of hairspray or windowlene (would be cheaper and easier for the average DIY'er).
