Carbon Rims - Whats the experience with Wider (if any)

So i wanted to know if anyone has experimented with wider rims and Tyres yet.

I want to build a set of strong (read all mountain) carbon MTB rims for my MTB, and possibly a set of road rims as well. Road will likely be disc specific.

Any ideas?

25mm on the road rims... best choice I made when getting new wheels. More confidence in corners and softer ride.

Also been tested and found that the 25mm wide road wheels have less rolling resistance than 23mm

Iwan Kemp, Nite Rider, anyone with Wide Lightnings and a few others.

In short - OMG WTF was I thinking! Should have bought these aaaaaaaages ago!

Yep. More air means conforming to the ridges in the road more easily, which leads to less bouncing around and correspondingly more conservation of forward momentum

This is what I thought - are you referring to MTB here or road as well

Ive got Concepts from Leonard (CCD on theHub) - tyres I use Conti GP2000's but the 23mm wide tyres not 25mm.

Can still fit 23mm tyres to 25mm rims.

I have gone from "std" rims to Wide Lightnings to Derby Rims. Talking MTB. The Derby 27.5 are 40mm outside and 35mm inside. 29er is 35mm external and 29mm internal

WHAT. A. HUGE. DIFFERENCE. A. SET. OF. RIMS. CAN. MAKE. Night, and freaking day. Tires are transformed into grip and traction monsters, lower pressures (I'm on 15psi front, 20psi rear) means sand is my bi-jaatch and my steel hardtail feels a bit like a soft tail.

Cornering grip is insane. Stuff that - I'm going riding!

On the road. Wider rims = more vertical sidewalls (even on a 25mm tyre)= like a new bike. As I said in the other thread. HED Ardennes+. Tubeless. Speak to Eldron.

Have a look at Ibis, Blackhawk wheel company, or Derby. Bas van Steenberg race Blackhawks in the Urban downhill series, so they are super tough. Pricing is not bad either. Import the rims yourself, and get them built up locally with Hope, industry 9 or CK. Rims on their own are not that heavy, so shipping should be reasonable...

Blackhawk should be available in SA soon...;)

I've been riding a set of Edco Albis for the last month, and I absolutely love them. 24.5mm rims, with 25mm Contis - I can't believe how much of a different they make. Better grip, more comfortable ride, and apparently, more aero.

Every article and study that I have read not only says 25 is more comfortable than 23, but also all the lab and real world studies show that they are faster too.

I think Spez makes a 25c tyre that fits most 23c rims.
