I could see the fie in the valley there from Paarl.  I also saw the helicopter probably minutes before its fatefull crash.

Fire didn't seem massive but the wind was pumping so I don't know what the situation is.  It's just too dry, too late in the year.

I posted it as soon as I got to the office, after I heard it on 567 and the chopper was confirmed as going down. AFIS was confirming it as reasonably large (via Dan Dobinson) and with Nico saying the wind is pumping, it doesn't look good.

RIP to the occupants who lost their lives in the crash...

It's just rdiculously dry.  Arson possible, even probable, but could also be negligence.  A bottlecap or piece of glass.  Though it wasn't very hot yesterday in Paarl.

The news24 report suggests it's in the fynbos, that means more likely below the pass and away from the forest trails.  Lots of farmning activity there though.

But what JB says above gives me little hope.

The frequency of fires in areas of 1. plantations and 2. on trails (mainly by virtue of the plantation) makes speculation unavoidable.

8 point source in the Muizenberg incident during SE gale conditions... think about it.

Not sounding good. Sounds like its hit Doolhof & Oaklands which means blue & white route.

Ive sent water this morning for the guys who are fighting it. Waiting for my guys to get back

for a full/better report

I have almost zeor doubt that Muizenberg was Arson.

But to what end?  Political?  Making WC "ungovernable"?  Doesn't seem like a likely cause and effect.

Most probable theory I've heard is firemen themselves seeking work and overtime pay or recognition.

Also burning right above the Hugeunot tunnel now. Quite badly.
