but it will change the length your foot is from the pedal, this might possibly cause pains because you are essentially changing your bike setup..

But it certainly the most versatile one I've seen as yet, if it works I'll get one for my mtb.

This looks like an interesting product, have a look at what DC Rainmaker has to say about the concept,he gives some VERY interesting through on all theses new PM systems entering the market..... I think the general public overlook the points Ray brings up.....

Especially the update on the article, after having spoken to the company.

I hope they succees in bringing the products to market (more competition, choice, etc.), but they will have to work magic to stick to that timeline.

The Idea is along the right path, like Marius says tho it pushes your Q factor way out which may lead to injuries etc...

Like DC said as well, companies like this have an idea but cannot implement it fast enough or it takes so much R+D time to make a reliable, accurate and consistent system, that the company goes bust or gives up. Anyone can make a power meter, its not difficult, what is difficult is making it marketable. Nobody wants an exposed circuit board held on their bars by a lump of presstik? can you imagine who would buy a GPS system like that?

Look at SRM, PowerTap they have been down this road, so surely they would have made and tested prototypes along these lines...so why haven't they made it to market? because its not really viable...its that simple.

I'm keen to get power meters out on the bikes rather than just IDT, but not going to pay R10k+ for that incremental gain at this stage, which is why his comment -

"Right now the key aspect that’s driving up power meter costs is that the market will pay it."

- left a bit of an after taste.  Very true though. Exciting then that the perception is that 12-24 months from now power meter instruments should be available around the $200-$300 mark from established companies as well.

I'll sit tight for now.

My fitness level is up.  My training time is down.

More improvement gained from my R10k powermeter that what I gained from my R30k racing wheels......

Just a thought.  :whistling:

Does it not fit onto the inside of the crank arm perhaps....if not this is going to cause serious knee problems especially with people who already have Q factor issues

Agreed, but already doing my time-limited training in the week on wattbikes (which has changed my riding radically in the last year), which is why this would be incremental.

would I be better off buying a power meter than a set of wheels?

Better off?

All relative......

The powermeter, if used correctly, will improve your fitness.  Or save you time training smarter.

The wheelset will make you LOOK fast though.....

SO it depends......what is your objective? :whistling:  ;)

What Spinnekop said...

Depends on your end goal... if you want be a better rider then power meter; if you just want a better ride then wheels.

Ideally get the one now and then save to get the other down the line, in which case get the PM first

Having a PowerTap has changed my riding...I can now see that even tho I haven't trained for a while, I can still push lets say 200W but my HR is thru the roof, what training on power will do is get your power up (or stay the same in some cases) but lower your HR as you become more efficient.

Flash wheels will not make you faster necessarily....certainly not long term.
