I think the point that the OP was making was that she didn't get that handshake that says thank you for the trouble.

What I experience on that Breedtsnek ride a while ago was that it was kind of expected. Do you have a tube? Ok, give it to me.

And then, taking this a bit further - how is this different from kids along the Sani2C route asking for chocolate?

I love calling bull on posts like this ;)

It's not "asking for chocolaaat" it's GIVE ME YOUR CHOCOLAAAT

i've helped out a few times with tubes and bombs and waited till the guys where back on the road... but the once I had a flat and my inflator didn't work, not a single person stopped or even asked if I need help yet they could see me struggling on the side of the road. That really grated me, but guess thats how it goes

It's most definitely about the money, go to cwc and see what a tjoob costs, gator patch, stans, valves, bombs...oh and of course the courier to get it to you. Punctures can quickly turn into an expensive exercise

No it doesn't.

I help now and then, have been helped in return and my charity expense comes nowhere close to 500 per month.

Maybe you can't afford the odd tube at a race (OP was talking about a race not the city thing you lot do) but why do you expect others to buy your karma?

I can easily afford a tube or bomb every other race and the only qualm I have about stopping is if I am chasing one of my mates.

I race at least once a month and I don't have to ask Andy or IQ to help me out with it either.

Good for you bud....thing is if you don't keep record of what you dish out, there is no way of telling...I was shocked to see what it used to cost me over and above the general expectation of the people that killed it for me...also what the OP's post was about. I don't really care much for charity on the trail...never mind a race. You do understand the concept of a race hey.

I am not expecting anyone to buy me karma as u put, just that I am not interested in funding people's lazyness/weight weenie ness/ignorance. If that is your cup of tea well then good for you, I take my hat off. Don't judge me if it isn't mine.

There have been a few times when I was ready to just that when I'm crawling through mordor

Not judging you. Don't care one way or the other what you do.

Help don't help. It does go around eventually.

Some of us can and do help now and then and we don't need an accountant to keep record of the odd bomb. And I do mean "odd". I raced ( yes I know what race means even though I don't ride the spruit) the Sabie experience a few weeks ago and in all four days never needed to help anyone.

If you can't afford a bomb or two or chain link a month, by all means, save your loot. But your claims of fiscal irresponsibility are exaggerated.

Wow, just wow. You are a better person than me...being so blase about geld and the need to help others that most of the time won't give you the time of day nevermind make sure they refund / replace what you used to get them rolling again. Well done, me, I am over it.

Since money has no meaning to you and all that, I am sure you won't mind if we setup a debit order to my account each month from you...I ride the spruit almost every sunday and encounter numerous people with punctures and mechs, our outride on saturday also yields a person on the side of the road...nevermind races where its all over. It will work out in the region of about 500-700 rand, but it won't matter since its a good deed being done. My commitment is to stop everytime someone has an issue, donating my time you know...you just need to sponser it.

I will go sofar as to take pictures of the help I offered for you to see the "look on their faces" since that is what it is about for you...that is if they don't jump on the bike and start riding straight after I fix their issue.

Time to put your money where your mouth is...otherwise, you and that karma aunty can stable your high horses...

My mistake, this looked like you wanted Andy to pay for something...

This thread and the "All marshalls are pricks" thread refers. I am prepared to get Hub kit and ride in some races (not the ones I target time) as "mobile mechanic" or something. We all want to do good at times. I am sure we can get a clever Hubber to expand the idea.

Which races will that be? Will even fake a mechanical.......just to boost that a specialist has worked on my bike with surgical precision. It will however need to be a good fake as the bike is already looked after by a professional who sometimes even donate his time and parts free of charge.......although it is his livelihood and daily business. Definitely not one of these ordinary cowboys of today......real stand-up guy.

......now if assistance during a race equated to a time credit to improve your SASeeding and bragging rights.....every minute spent helping can contribute to a 3min credit.

I will stop for a medical, and to help with a mechanical, but if the dude couldn't be bothered to carry his own basic spares, sorry for you. And most importantly I would not accept someone else's. If I needed too cos I was miles from anywhere I would make darn sure I contact the person after and replaced whatever I was given with a NEW item. Just good manners in my opinion.

Besides, I thought we all worked on the Clarkson, Hammon and May system. your bike breaks, your mates stop to laugh then move on. You don't get it fixed, some dude delivers an old post office "dikweel" for you to finish the race.

This subject is one of many classic hub threads that like a soap opera character gets killed off and then resurrected back to life a few months later.......like the days of our lives. Nothing is ever concluded or resolved :w00t:

Tommorow...the fifty sixth episode of "Dogs on the Spruit"

You are really privileged.....you can still view threads....keep getting the following when trying to view threads:

OOOOOOPS; SOMETHING WENT WRONG.[#10340] You do not have permission to view this topic. Wonder what is going on......feeling so disadvantaged.......and it all went poef.

Calculator...get one...unless you just chuck them a bomb and expect it to magically fix the hole of their bone dry tyre...sealant, patches, tjoobs are where it starts racking up tjom. I did the calcs and I dished out 500 bucks worth of stuff the one month, that was in 2 races and 7 rides...but hey if you ok with that, by all means carry on. Like I said, kudos to you...I am over it. Will happily ride past you in a race / trail, and won't bother me in the least, heck you might crack a wave

Spruit was used as an example of lots of traffic where mechs are prone, same with races. PS the post where I told Andy to pay for the spares was to try and get him off his high horse, maybe you can also do a dismount...sure it's not good for your karma points you keep carrying on about.
