Maybe stretching your abilities and moving on from the 20km fun ride to an actual race is the answer.

I did the VG 48 km race the weekend and one of the school laaites decided to stop before a small mud pool as he did not want to ride through it. I had to stop asap and had a little run in with the reeds. They are sharp when you want to cut then with your ear. I should grow up and do the marathons

Nice selfie.

Good Afternoon.

I would like to sort of 'lay a complaint'.  Besides for myself, various of my friends also cycling really have a problem with the youngsters (arrogant and sometimes inexperienced) that causes various falls and issues on the route (20Km).

I am sure if you would put the question out there, the replies would be overwhelming in support of my complaint.

They come past like maniacs, suddenly break in front of you on hills or sand or whatever challenge, moms stop in the middle of the route waiting for their kids - it's the most frustrating thing having these kids on the route.  And the race (20km or not) is enjoyable - besides for them.

My one Friend, Nicolette, fell 4 times on Saturday, all because of children.  Myself could go up on one hill duriing the single track because of a boy stopping midway - suddenly - and make you fall or cause others behind you to fall or affecting your time because you have to stop constantly.

I would like to make a suggestion that the primary school kids (with or without parents) take off half an hour later than the 20km adults - as with the 40km after the 75km, and the 20km after the 40km.

Please consider and test this complaint and suggestion with other members (not parents or primary school kids themselves).

The highschool boys are just plain arrogant and a pain - but at least a bit more experienced ...

thank you in advance.

Regards, Lizel.

you sure half an hour is enough of a gap between you and the 6 year old's .... just worried that you will be in their way when they come past?

Here is a better suggestion - pitch earlier for "races" so you can start at the front of the field and don't have to pass the kiddies. And make sure you are fit enough that the moms&kids don't pass you before you get to the climbs & technical stuff

Judging by the complaints with other races including sani2c and the more recent one at VG, seems it's not about distance or ages. There's always going to be someone doing something in front of you unless you're first.

Unless you accept that, don't ride races.

That's the reason I refuse to do any races with my friends.

On a normal ride if I come across young 'uns I treat them the same way I want to be treated. I give them space and don't breathe down their backs.

To the OP - don't take the comments too personally. You have to start somewhere and when you do move to longer/harder races, you may just be that person causing someone else to come off or have to wait, oh Welcome to the hub!

First of all it is called a race for a reason. those kids out there are there to race!

Second of all they are in front of you for a pretty good reason.

Thirdly we ( children) cannot ride marathons due to the rules so that is our race.

If you want to have fun on singletrack go to a bike park because we are here to RACE

so get infront of them ,and top complaining.

edit: I'm not saying that being rude is oky , just that you should respect us because we only have that specific distance to race in

The youngsters are excluded from the marathons. It seems fair to let them have "their" race at least (although a lot of the threads indicate that cultivating trail etiquette to just about everyone out there is necessary)

The complaint seems mainly about people stopping in front of the OP. Ah, world's going soft; my early "racing" background is that if you stopped in front of someone you were likely to be used for traction, block pass practice or a berm. Seldom seemed to be a problem. So from habit, if I stop I get off the track.

Come on OP, see the brighter side of life .... with all the stopping going on you can now perfect your track stand technique.

RE kids manners .... giving them their own race will not solve this, the solution to this problem lies at the kids homes with their parents.

this would make a classic T shirt for all the moaning douches on the hub always complaining about other cyclists .......

Good one Uni

The 20km is a ride - not a race.

The youngsters just enjoy them during the ride.

If you want to race, upgrade to the longer distances!

Daar ry ons nie - ons jaaaag!!!
