I'm pretty sure in the 20km you also get kids with those black blow-molded motorcycles that you push along.  Not saying 20km is for softies, but often that is the shortest distance at an event - and then anyone and everyone that wants to be on dirt will be on there including people that have never ridden off road, toddlers, hung-over - over-weight people who lost dares the previous night, bikes with kiddie seats and guys taking their girlfriends on their first mtb ride...

Realistically called a fun ride, and should be seen as such.

"My one Friend, Nicolette, fell 4 times on Saturday, all because of children."

Apart from all the other posts which are pretty much spot on maybe try a skills clinic. Wiping out 4 times would seem to indicate your friend has bigger problems than kids.

Some mense forget too quickly that they too were kids

BUT!!! Kids with respect.

Personally i do only MTB races above 50km so i pace myself to have energy for the last bits...But when a 18/19 year old who starts off with the 25km guys comes breathing down my neck, half wants to ram me off the single track because he doesn't have to reserve energy and not even apologise , i wanna give him a huge PK!! And some day i will ...:) All they have to do is chill for maybe 1 minute as most single tracks are not really that long... These laaities need to learn some patience and respect..

I am sure if you would put the question out there, the replies would be overwhelming in support of my complaint.

I think you failed!

If you enter the short distance you do accept that you have some sort of limitation. Either you are not fit enough to do longer distances or you lack the technical ability required in the longer distances. Everyone in the short distance is there to learn and improve their ability.

I NEVER expected to EVER read a rant like this towards kids from a lady

Its always more fun when the OP sticks around and adds some more pearls of wisdom...

Must be too busy running kids over with her 4x4 when they dare cross the road in front of her.

First of all it is called a race for a reason. those kids out there are there to race!

Second of all they are in front of you for a pretty good reason.

Thirdly we ( children) cannot ride marathons due to the rules so that is our race.

If you want to have fun on singletrack go to a bike park because we are here to RACE

so get infront of them ,and top complaining.

edit: I'm not saying that being rude is oky , just that you should respect us because we only have that specific distance to race in

Respect!!!For your elders that is!! ;-) Race your race dude!!!

I love this thread. It reminds me of the good old days of the rant and rave section. To the OP. There is only one race format where it is acceptable to ride a distance shorter than 40km and that is Enduro. Lucky for you the hakahana enduro is this weekend and there are still a few entries left.

.....and there wiping 4 times in a row will earn you some serious respect!
