Hi

I want to add a second water bottle to my bike. The bike only has mounts for one.

Ive been thing about just using Hose clamps but I think it will look a little tacky. Im also thinking of drilling new mounts. Does anyone know someone in Roodepoort that would be able to help me with this?

Thanks

Hi Dan. Very easy and I'll gladly give you the goodies needed. All you need to do is fit riv nuts. You can give me a shout and collect anytime

Would it matter if the frame is carbon or Alloy when fitting the blind rivet nuts? Would one not void the warranty by drilling the frame?

It will be a VERY cold day in hell when I let someone drill a hole in my bike. Fit one extra to your seat post, use a camelbak, and if you really dont want to do that hydrate properly before the race (do that any way)

Manufacturers use riv nuts, large flange on carbon and small flange on ally or steel. As for warranty I guess that goes out the window. As for strength, it does not weaken anything.

On alu I don't really see an issue but would keep the warranty in mind as stated. Carbon I just wonder as normally at least the frames I have where the river nut is it's normally also 'strengthened' around it ..... will just drilling a hole onto a not flat tube and then 'riveting' something into it forcefully not damage it? Or am I just paranoid ......

Riv nuts will be fine in ether alu, steel or carbon frames, and they won't compromise strength.

I even made my own Riv nut tool out of flat alu bar and a cap screw and nut. Works like a bomb and cost me about R5 to make. Also Riv nuts only cost about R2 or so each. It's just a case of drilling 2 holes in the right place. Obviously of its a frame still under warranty I would be cautious as you will probably void the warrenty.

Hence me saying a large flange riv nut as that adds support to carbon.
